you may want to check your HP figures, Rayza.
the DRZ makes about 35 HP in std trim.
no way does a berg make 75.

A 500 smoker motard would be scary shit alright - the modern smoker doesn't have a powerband like the old days, but they come on sooooo hard and with light flywheels and no engine braking wheelspin is hard to control,a 4 stroke is much more linear, and you can play around in the on/off throttle zone - the 4 stroke throttle is a reostat, the 2 stroke a switch.

Mind you I dirt tracked a TS/TM 400,but it was old school and I used the heavier TS crank and flywheel which smoothed out the radical powerband,it was actualy very 4 stroke in power down, but no engine braking.I rode a WR500 set up as a flattracker too and just couldn't get any traction, any throttle and the rear wheel just spun up....but this was in a practise session before a blue groove had formed.Flattrackers run 19,or 18in front wheels and they put much more load on the front wheel in corners than a motard - even with no engine braking I've gone out on the track and traced at least 3 metres of black rubber from the front tyre of the TS400,that's a long way to push a front tyre in a slide....

was sweet - it was on trademe last week again.

they are an excellent bike - i just got tired of all the suspension travel, ride it hard and it's like a rocking horse.
my new project will be much lower, but around the same weight and power.....
oh, and look like it's 30 years old.

i spoke to steve bridge at F1 in hamilton, and he had just measured up an XR750 flat tracker. he said the geometry was identical to a modern GSXR!
think about THAT for a second!

It's a well proven setup, and no fluke as to why the Americans were dominant for so many years in GP.But the XR750 has a thousand adjustments - they can alter rake and trail seperatly,or together, alter wheelbase and center of gravity seperatly also, the bike can be quickly set up for any track,or surface change. This is possibly another reason for that period of US dominance - the dirt trackers knew much more about set up and how a small change in geometry or weight distribrution could effect the bike, the Euro's who rode a class bike with little in the way of alterations didn't know this stuff.

Well there's a guy down this way that races his CR250 framed CR500 and he seems to do pretty damn well. Consistently in the top 5 in F3. Nice bike too. Not sure what year the frame is but I got the impression that its a pretty new one. Heres a pic of it.

My Cr I mod the flywheels ..make them big and Move the effective mass of the flywheel out ,,,so It add litle weight but stores a bit of energy Makes the bike much easier to ride .....almost the same as a reostat

Same as my TM/TS 400 - the TM had no ign flywheel at all,and the ign curve jumped to full advance soon as it got on pipe, making it kinda dangerous, they earned the bad reputation. But the TS ign flywheel added weight it didn't have before and a softer ign curve smoothed out the power kick, completly tamed an almost unrideable bike.

and that puts its coefficient in the old rotational inertia closer to an ideal ring at 1, where a traditional disc flywheel would be around 0.5, and I would say more like a switch with a big capacitor

I'd be going for something thats eligable for BEARS. The Husabergs, KTMs etc at the Nelson street races were eligable for so many classes that they were actually having to quickly fill up and head out again.
