    Bet you didn't know that!

I thought this might be a good thread to increase general bike knowledge. Anything vaugly (can't spell) m/c related is fine.

    Here's my initial contribution:

    The K5 GSX-R 1000 is smaller than the K5 GSX-R 600!

My left eye is slightly worse than my right eye, therefore my left contact feels like the bottom of a coke bottle!

Wind Drag on a Honda CBR1100XX Blackbird

By designing the revolutionary and first ‘piggy back’ headlight, in which the high beam unit sits above and behind the low beam one, it was possible to taper the CBR-XX’s nose in both the horizontal and vertical planes, leading to it’s distinctive bullet like point. Similarly, the opening behind the front wheel is tapered inwards (if you look carefully) allowing the radiator to receive a precisely measured amount of air, but no more, as this would increase wind drag and turbulence . The remarkable result is an ultra-narrow frontal aspect and a wind drag coefficient lower than that achieved by the ‘WORKS’ Honda NSR250 GP-bike! Even the front fender was designed in a wind tunnel to counter the effect on wind on the front wheel!

    Blindfold Motorcycle Speed Record

Britain's Billy Baxter reached a speed of 265.33 km/h (164.87 mph) while riding a 1200 cc Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle unsighted at RAF Boscombe Down, Wiltshire, UK, on August 2, 2003. Baxter lost his sight after an eye infection he picked up while serving as a Staff Sergeant with the army in Bosnia in 1997.

Billy "The Whizz" Baxter realized he could make an attempt at the blindfold speed record after a skiing trip to Italy. "I realized that if I could ski, I could ride a motorbike again," he explained. With the help of the Royal Artillery Motorcycle Display Team, he developed a three-way radio communications system involving himself and two outriders behind him.

Guinness World Records does not discriminate in any way against able or lesser abled record claimants. This record is open to both blind and/or blindfolded participants.

also, the turbine driving the compressor on a 2500hp gas turbine (such as is fitted to a typical commuter aeroplane) rotates at almost 40000rpm.

I'd like think Jim or Andrew or Bruce could beat that with about a weeks practice.
