Plus 4 million.
It's against the law to play with your phone, but plenty legal to spend as much time as you like playing with your in-car infotainment system.
Dumb rules.
Followed a bloke the other day watching the Argentina FIFA football game on a tablet on his dashboard. Sheesh.
Have they changed the rules surrounding things like screens in latter years? It used to be something like it was unlawful to have a TV useable/seeable by the driver when driving [paraphrased/simple speak]
Has this rule been abolished to allow new tech, overlooked in the rise of new tech, or am I just remembering things wrong all together?

Back in the day... (80's) it was against the law in Greece to have a radio in the car!...
(And to smoke in your car ....)
Opinions are like arseholes: Everybody has got one, but that doesn't mean you got to air it in public all the time....
"If you ever need anything please dont hesitate to ask someone else first.
Anyhoo don't forget to add to calendar 19th May, 27th July, and 31 August.
World whisky day, International whisky day, and Scotch whisky day.
Well found a rule with a quickish search
Legality of infotainment systems it seems would largely depend on what they define as a "TV" (I can't find a legal or made-up NZTA definition of "TV")2.5 Televisions in motor vehicles
2.5(1) Except as provided in 2.5(2), any part of the image on a
television screen fitted in a motor vehicle must not be visible to
the driver of the motor vehicle from his or her normal driving
position while the motor vehicle is in motion.
2.5(2) Subclause 2.5(1) does not apply if:
(a) the television screen is fitted in the motor vehicle only for
the purpose of assisting the driver to reverse safely, by
showing a clear picture of the area directly behind the
motor vehicle; or
(b) the motor vehicle is a passenger service vehicle and the
provisions of Land Transport Rule: Passenger Service
Vehicles 1999 are complied with; or
(c) the screen is designed so that only information relating to
the navigation, safe operation and control of the motor
vehicle can be displayed on the screen while the motor
vehicle is in motion; or
(d) the screen is only capable of displaying text and any
change to the text on the screen is controlled manually by
the driver.

I bought a new Viva wagon in 1970. It had been 'done up' as a demonstrator, so had a heater, carpets & wheel trims. I had to buy a radio for it as I would be doing weekly return trips from Invercargill to Queenstown, solo. Even had to get a Radio Dealer's Licence So they would sell it to me!

Used car sales used to have window cards loudly portraying the vehichle in question had:

Mudflaps
5 Speed (this was big!)
Now it's all:

Autowank this and autowank that
