Those who insist on perfect safety, don't have the balls to live in the real world.

Built for speed, not for comfort
THAT has gotta be the worst crash I've seen, anyone know if the riders are all OK? think its Muggeridge getting tossed around like a rag doll, he's gotta have broken arms and legs in that little lot!!!Originally Posted by Kornholio
The final race of the 2005 Corona Extra World Championship season, at Magny Cours in France, saw a terrifying startline accident begin with two riders hanging off one machine - and end with a total of five competitors in the turn one gravel trap.
The accident was triggered when Australians Andrew Pitt and Karl Muggeridge collided seconds after the start - Muggeridge, who had been overtaken by Pitt, being thrown off his Ten Kate Honda in the process.
Karl would fall to his left and land directly on Pitt's rear wheel, which dragged the #31, who was lying sideways across the wheel, right around to the swingarm - locking the rear wheel in the process.
That braking effect threw Pitt over the handlebars of his Yamaha Motor Italia R1, and the #88 would be left clinging desperately from the side of his bike as both he, Muggeridge and the machine careered out of control across turn one.
"Muggeridge and I clashed - I got a good start and he got a bad start and we both drifted over to the right to get a better line for the first corner," explained Pitt afterwards. "The bikes were wheelieing and then I felt him touch the back of my bike and then it felt like something touched my brake lever."
But the drama was far from over since, as they torpedoed across the track, the pair collected three more riders at the high speed turn - Kawasaki's Giovanni Bussei, Steve Martin of Foggy Petronas and Yamaha's Julien Da Costa, all of whom were also sent tumbling into the gravel trap.
Amazingly, all five escaped without serious injury - Da Costa and Pitt even making the restart. The chewed-up Muggeridge would amazingly only require stitches to the back of his neck after a bike landed on him, while Bussei was taken to the medical centre for further tests.
"I was just about to tip in left while flat out in third when I saw Bussei suddenly come right. I ran into the back of him and took a big whack in the chest but thankfully I have walked away relatively in one piece," said Martin.
Pitt was left battered and bruised - and with skinned hands - but still made the restart on his spare machine, the shaken Australian eventually crossing the finish line in a brave seventh.
"It was a big crash. I can say that we don't think any bones are broken, but that's about it," said Andrew. "For the first couple of laps I was in a bit of a daze and going backwards. My head was pounding and my hands were hurting but after a few laps I was able to focus and work my way through to seventh."
Lorenzo Lanzi went on to win the restarted event after race one winner Chris Vermeulen retired from the lead with mechanical problems.
