Honda C50 not starting

Bought a c50 a couple of weeks ago and it wasnt idling well so took the carb apart and unblocked the jets, started up fine after that but still wasnt idling very well so one week later i took the carb apart and found i had not cleared out one of the jets so soaked the whole carb in carbie cleaner over night put it back together and it wont start at all. Got a new spark plug because other one wasnt sparking how ever after a while trying to start it, the new spark plug wasnt sparking very well either even after a good clean. Im guessing coil or a compressin issue i really dont know where to go from here

Try to look at some of the basics...
Spark plug cap makes proper connection with lead from coil?coil properly earthed...?
No water in fuel/old stale fuel?
Try a bit of" start ya bastard" (ether) in air intake...?
Etc...
Take your time work your way through basics.
You got spark and fuel it will run....

The carbs probably weren't the issue, maybe the are now.
I hope the seals are still ok in the carb and between carb and cylinder. If not then you may be leaning the mixture too much for it to start.
However I thik you are on the right track about the original prblem.

Fuel,
Air,
Compression,
Timing,
Spark,
It's one of the above.
I'd chuck it a new spark plug early in the piece.

If you kick it over without the spark in do you see any 'vapour' come out of the spark plug hole? If you can't see any try putting the spark in and kicking it over, does the spark plug get wet or is it dry? Obivously here I'm assuming here it's not even firing. This will tell you if you're getting petrol to the cylinder i.e. not a blocked jet, sticking float etc. If there is no sign of petrol then you may want to have another go at the carb. One way I've used in the past for a really manky carb is to take off the float bowl, float etc and then leave it all to soak in Coke (or Pepsi:-)) for a couple of days, then a day in Turpentine or Paraffin, followed by a good rinse with petrol. Sounds weird but it does seem to clean them up and unblock things.

You said its a weak spark with the new plug. I assume you've checked the gap as it's a new spark plug so is it a consistent but weak spark or is it missing sometimes but not others? HT lead or cap could be suspect if the problem is intermittent, may be worth trying to move these around a bit as you test the spark to see if it alters. If those seem good then unfortunately the coil may be at fault as you suggest.

Is it running at all or completely dead? If begins to fire and then fails another simple thing to check is to temporarily remove the air filter and give it a go. I have had it before with a small engine that it would splutter a few times and die. Turned out the air filter was full of dust and that was the cause - which I only worked out after checking the carb, spark etc:-)
