Certainly remember the name & seem to remember seeing him race at the Springs & Whaiwhakaiho - New Plymouth.
Suck, Squeeze, Bang, Blow arent just the 4 cycles of an engine
I didn't know Bryce personally, but I've watched him race countless times at Western Springs and Rosebank....sat beside him and listened to him chatting up girls old enough to be his granddaughter.Rosebank Speedway was all about Bryce Sibritzky - the whole family was involved....and maybe you were one of those little kids who used to sit with your Grandmother keeping her eye on the whole operation.
A couple of stories....you want those eh? My boss used to hang around with a group that included Bryce....everyone would gather at the Civic Theater on Queens street and park their bikes....back wheel to the curb.Bryce would come in and park his Harley front wheel to the curb....when he left,he would start his bike, get on,and reverse out, feet on the footboards, select 1st and ride off....all without putting a foot down.An ex sidecar bike of course.
He started a stock bike or flattrack class at Rosebank, and people used to bring all sorts of bikes down.Someone had an RM250,and it was very hard to ride around the track...they said it was impossible to ride.Bryce reckoned he could, everyone said bullshit,he couldn't ride that thing around the track. So he went out,and dropped it on the first corner, picked it up and got back on (he was pretty short remember) He dropped it every corner, time after time...it was getting pretty bloody embarrassing with this old fool crashing this bike and getting back on to do it again and again. Then,he got it's number and found out how to ride it - he rode that killer RM250 around the track power on the whole way like a speedway bike.It was awesome, and everyone cheered as he rode around. That was really impressive.
I know Owl Morris and Conquistidor used to race at Rosebank...they would have more dealings with him.
If you are Jean's grandson please reply to email carolharvey2@aol.com. Saw your query whilst googling about Bryce today!.
Am I too late? I raced with Bryce and watched him as I was growing up. I Would love to chat about my memories. He is one of my feel good memories.
I met Bryce Subritzky Jnr a heap of times while sidecar racing at Rosebank in the early 2000s, this is linked from off his FB, https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?f...8863876&type=3
