Hey, could someone down in Wellington check out a bike for me? I can't get to check it out because I'm up in jafa land.
Cheers

What sort of bike?
Whereabouts in Welly?
And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.

or that billing boy, he will drop it going into the servo. deja vu.
ill crash it into a hill worthy of a good crash, the RIMUTAKA RACE TRACK. sweet?
I'd offer, but I'd barely be able to tell you which way up the bike was...

Here you go
Check the oil leak. It seems excessive. Any R1 owners like to comment?
not only does it seem excessive - it looks NASTY black - when was the last oil change? that much oil shouldn't be coming out from ANYWHERE on a late model bike. i would be very worried if that was my bike.
You are a legend bartman!! thanks again![]()

In case anyone else is thinking of buying this bike (it's on trade me) here is what I PM'd Rayza
I had a look at that R1.
There are some good points and some bad points. You'll have to make a decision on whether its worth your time to investigate it further.
First it's been crashed more than once. There are extensive grazes on the left and the fairing on the right has had plastic welding. The repairs are shoddy. The crank case repair is poor and he's stuck fake carbon fibre sticker over some of the other grazes.
There is extensive oil pooling around the gear change and front sprocket. He claimed it was chain lube but the rest of the chain was virtually dry. It looked more like engine oil to me.
The brakes seemed good, but first to second gear changes were clunky.
This is one of the very earliest R1's number 000429
That is bad news. The early R1's (up to number 001623) were subject to 5 factory recalls. Including clutch gear and drive train recalls. There should be marks on this bike indicating that the recall work was carried out, but they're not there. You need to ring Yamaha and find out whether this work was carried out on this bike and whether they will still fix the problems under warranty.
The owner seemed friendly enough but he hasn't looked after it with utmost care.
Probably the worst part is that the sub frame might be slightly out of whack to the left, but you'd have to stick it on a jig to be sure.
The good parts of the bike. The tyres are OK and k's are fairly low, and it's quite cheap, but you've got to remember the bike is now 7 years old.
I honestly think you could do much better.
Have you considered a K1 GSXR600? They are better handling and plenty fast enough.
But, if your heart is set on an R1 and you've got the cash then it's up to you. But get a professional mechanic to look into that oil problem, and ring Yamaha to find out about the recall status.
