    Stolen Bike, Auckland Airport.

    Hi All,
Sometime between 19th January and 24th January, someone has made off with my KTM 950 SM from the Auckland Airport domestic carpark. It was in the covered carpark, in designated m/c parking next to the car charging stations very close to the ticket payment machines.

Since that time I have been dealing with SecureParking (haha) and Skygate Security (haha x 2). I can safely report to the readers here that these organisations are in fact quite useless and despite having cameras up the wazoo, they failed to see the before mentioned bike somehow disappear. My insurance company advised me that they had 2 claims of stolen bikes in the same week from the same location. Smells like a targeted operation.

Here is part of their response I received today: 'Due to poor CCTV coverage on cp Q I couldn’t find any suspicious activities during that time. There were few motorbikes leaving cp but none of them was matching description or registration'.

It took them 5 days before reviewing the footage and initially got the dates wrong. It's my opinion that anyone leaving their bike there overnight does so at some risk as cameras are only as useful as the person reviewing them.

Does anyone here have experience in getting a hold of CCTV footage? I reckon the operators just have no clue in what they're looking for, I'd like to see it myself.

    For the record:
KTM 950 SM-R 2008 (black & orange, centre stand, crash bungs, tour screen, hand guards and USB outlet)
    Plate # B7EKC
    VIN: VBKVS44087M934684.

    Cheers.

More like car park attendants ... only ONE person responsible for the security of their motorcycle ... and that's the rider.

One battery grinder to cut chains or exterior locks ... four (or less) strong guys ... a van/covered trailer and job done.

    Tracker on the bike?

Let the insurance co prod the police into doing their jobs?

Get a lift to the airport?

Make the bike unattractive to the thieving scumbags?

Petition the airport to improve security for bikers e.g. ground anchors and better CCTVs?

    ...

yeah that was "Navy Boy" on here, his Guzzi pinched from airport on the 22nd, probably parked next to yours...

Sorry to hear it wasn't an isolated case

Almost worth buying a shit scooter to do the errands, and keep the proper flash bike locked up till the weekend

I hate thieves as well. Managed to avoid them since the 90's when some bastard pinched the RZ from the garage. I'm a regular user of that park and never had reason to think that it would be less safer than leaving it at home. It's a monitored carpark, 200m from a police station, parked 20m in front of a camera. To get a van in and out, you have to go through 2 barriers where your details are recorded (well the vehicle plate at least). Talking with non-biker mates and have heard tales of 2 cars stolen from the airport. A Subaru and a camper.

Makes me think that this is was a planned raid and the goons are going to get clean away because left hand not talking to right hand and silo mentality of the the systems in place. Can anyone here get me in touch with Navy Boy please? I don't have enough posts to email him yet. I reckon his and my bike were taken at exactly the same time, it's just we returned at different times.

Also, bear in mind that Auckland Airport received $56.3m in revenues in 2017 for car parking. It's their 5th biggest earner therefore there is no reason why minimum wage drongos are in control at the parking. But something fishy is definitely going on there. I will be going over to the Airport police, not to prod them but see if they can help me get my hands on CCTV footage. I'm happy to slog through it but it's a fog of confusion to get answers from the mysterious and elusive 'security' people at the airport. Easier to get in touch with Batman than a human at Skygate.

Alas no tracker, but as irony would have it, I had been checking them out recently.
