hmm, I can come off in corners fine, but haven't managed to simply let it fall over. Touch wood.

Then again, if I'm sitting on it, it can't just fall over, 6"3 I'm just about sitting on a normal chair. Have almost fallen over from not putting my feet down, but that's because I was having fun seeing how slow I could go balancing, then I was seeing if I could balance when stopped as well.

Knowing my luck, my next bike will probably fall over, being more expensive and pretty...

Everyone has done it at one stage or another. Wether they want to admit it or not. She will get over it and start riding again, but you need to give her all the encouragement she needs.

You're probably right there. I Think its because of the strength thing. I have 21 years experience on roadbikes and dropped my bike at the gas station just last Saturday. But in all honesty I avoided hitting a car and my steering head bearing is stuffed. The bike got to the point of no return and I couldnt turn the bars to hold it up and over we went. Only damage was to my pride as it was right in front of my Rossi. :slap: and he had to help me pick it up.

Jeez, I saw some footage a few weeks back of a GP racer dropping his bike while just sitting on it and nearly stationary. Silly shit can happen to anyone. It's how we learn.

my favorite trick is to pull the clutch in (while still in first), put the stand down, lean the bike onto the stand, then let the clutch out. the kill switch kills the engine, but not before the bike jumps forward enough to break the over centre on the stand, and lose balance. i think i posted photos of my effort to save the bike from the garge floor...(which i did, at the expense of some skin)

I didn't know bikes had a stand. This discovery will help immensly with parking.

I've never done the stand trick - my efforts were far more spectacular! When learning to ride I would try to flick my bike into neutral as I approached a red light, but once or twice I was concentrating so hard on finding neutral (which wasn't that easy on the RG150) that I completely forgot to put either foot down and the bike just fell over, taking me with it! I also dropped the bike once when the rider in front of me stopped just around a corner - put my foot down and found a deep pothole. Thankfully the bike landed on my flabby thighs so no damage other than to my leg and pride!

Tell her EVERYONE does dumb things at some stage in their riding life and now she's done it, she can move on!
Yes, I am pedantic about spelling and grammar so get used to it!

Not me. The only stupid thing I did with the NTV650, was when I was putting it on the centre stand. There was a wall behind and I didn't leave enuf clearance.

I dont think its a strength thing... for most people if a bike is going down, its going down...

Here's my 19yo male thought on why I reckon it happens more to females... They are thinking to much about whats around them when they stop, is it safe to stop, have I turned everything off... good way to miss something... like the side stand.

I think guys are less prone to it because they just stop... don't care as much whats around or who they are blocking...

Only my young minded theory btw

Well I have never forgotten to put my sidestand down, but in saying that I'll probably do it now. After 21 years I think I can safely say I dont really have to think about turning things off or if its safe to stop etc, pretty much automatic now. Easy enough to do when you are learning to ride though, when you're all nervous and anxious.
I have seen plenty of men drop their bike at zero kph....shouldn't laugh but sometimes its funny.
