    Suzuki DR250 project

Have just bought one (its fucked) as a project.

Im wondering if anyone has a link to a free downloadable manual, or one they can email me even?
Its a 1985 that I bought - it was cheap, and I have had a couple of these before, when I was about 15 I did a jump on one with a fat chick on the back and sheared off the rear shock mount which went through the seat, haha good time.
Looking forward to tearing into it for shits and giggles.

Also, if anyone has any electrical components they might be willing to part with, that would be good to know.

oh yeah, also, if anyone can tell me what parts from other years/models are the same/interchangeable, that would be a help too.

Dont ask for much do I?

So have you got pictures of the before... I always forget that bit then when I'm done you can't see the path taken.

I just bought an 86 DR250. It's a runner. Gold wheels too. In need of much work. And previously road rego'd. Done the cert yesterday and it's all good now just the paperwork to rego.

Just had a quick look at the two motors side by side and much is the same. The GN has a starter motor upfront so the left engine cover and housing is deferent. The sprocket cover is also different. The rest is the same. Interesting to know. I picked up the DR yesterday and the GN about a month back.

    Good luck with the build.

I'm not sure if I'm keeping the DR. 21,000km's since new. And looks to be genuine. Most on a farm and a bit of time parked up in a shed.

    thanks for that Mystic.
I pick the bike up tomorrow, but probably wont be able to do anything with it for a few days at least.
I am fairly sure it also has the gold wheels, which I like, and comes with a couple of spares.
it is very rough and needs heaps of work, and I will try to get more photos of this tha I did with my CR125 build.
the first step is check timing compression carb etc, then see if I can make it run at all. as soon as it runs, I will strip it down and start the hard work.
as far as I know, my one hasnt been road registered, but I cant be totally sure of that. If it has been previously, then I will most likely take it down that road as it will be handy to have like that.

Have a read through this thread - someone else that got most of the way through restoring a DR250. There should be some useful info there for you, but I'll warn you now that he never finished the story ...

PM me any time if you need a picture of anything. Just got the carb back in the GN and it kicked into life for the first time since it arrived. Final clip together, warrant and rego and it'll be gone on Thursday to a new home.

Sounds like similar DR's. Here's some pictures of my one. I'd like to keep this because my son is riding an XR100. We can ride together. I also like the DR250 because it has a lower seat more like a scrambler, it's electric start and has a disc up front.

So went to work this morning at 7am, in the truck and off to cromwell. we were supposed to be doing a delivery, and the boss said I could pick the bike up on the way home.
We got to just past roxburgh, and got a call. 'turn around and come back, theres been a fuck up, delivery isnt today..... '
"OK" I said "but we are just 30 minutes away from alexandra . . ."
"Yeah yeah, go get your bike then come home then"

Since I wasnt the driver today, work consisted of 7 hours or so of sleeping in a truck, to pick up my new project. Thats a win right there!

anyways, Looks like mine is/was the same as your mystic, in colour at least, until someone painted it black, will have to take care of that cos it looks hideous. Mine is also a drum brake front, but ti seems to operate ok, so thats ok.

Here are a few photos I took when i got it home tonight, its missing a foot peg, and some electrical components, the inside of the tank is a bit rusty, rear tyre is fucked but i think I have one in the shed that will fit, and Im sure there will be plenty else wrong with it. the throttle seems very tight, but it does kick over and has compression, that about all Ive done so far.

    here are some pics.

Looking at the photos of those 250s, the only difference with my 200 I can see is the tank, and mine is disk front, I have a spare 200 too.

Let me know what you need and I will see what I can do, I know there is no spare frame or side covers and I had to make my own front sprocket cover. I think everything else is still there though.
