Yep fucking B E A utifull. Funnily enough last year I stayed down there and slept in the truck so I could be up to help with brekki and the cook went home after she finished in the canteen. Word went around that we had had a row and she had left me there. pmsl some people have all the fun.
And no it wasn't the most comfortable sleeping in a single cab ute.

Bugger i have to work this weekend.....![]()
This event has never really appealed too much to me.... but that news story has changed it and the club should use it as marketing.
Didn't realise it got that cold, minus 11 or 14 whatever now that's some bragging rights....
Also attracted by the dwindling crowds, less is better imho....

Stuff comments are interesting as per usual.
Sounds like someone was having trouble starting their tractor in the background on most of the video.
Safe to say I have remained warm inside this weekend - shit weather. Maybe I'll add another layer of wax to bike.
I've been twice, in 1986 on my Z1000J and 1994 on my BMW R75/5 with sidecar. Snowed that year and the sidecar was great for doing power slides.
In 1986 recall staying in the Queenstown campground ( walking distance to town) and on a Sunday the pubs were 'closed' unless you were a visitor or eating there ( can't remember). Pub was full of bikers and Europe were on the big screen with "The Final Countdown" mulletastic.![]()

Double Post.

yep, it was a tad chilly, the Goldwing turned in to a Coldwing.
the hoar frost was awesome and the fog rolling in and out all day and night was interesting and it did roll out just long enough for the fireworks. The dam was frozen as has been stated but only a couple of inches thick.
We left round about ten on sunday morning and headed to Dunedin via Palmerston and it took almost all the way to Palmerston for the ice to finally disappear off the screen.
spent the night in Dunners then did a couple of touristy things then headed home about 3pm. Someone decided it would be good to go via Taieri mouth which normally would have been a good ride and it was for the most part but some dipstick contractor had closed part of the road and put in place a mudslide as a detour, kept things honest, somebody needed to be dragged along that detour by their sensitive parts.
Coming in to Gore was interesting with the back end wanting to arrive in Gore quicker than the front but that was put back in its place very quickly only to have a dickhead in a 4x4 twin cab pull out in font of me and stop right by a zebra crossing with me have to squeeze up beside him only to see a couple of young uns on the crossing, thankfully i was already braking hard and did stop.
Survived Gore against the odds and got out alive and carried on my merry way in the increasing darkness till i got to Dacre and turned off to head towards Lorneville, now this road i know to have the odd shaded spot so i slowed considerably, just as well as i discovered more than a few spots of black ice with the worst being about 100m long with me becoming a mere passenger trying to guide a squirming Goldwing in a straight line across an ice rink. Popped out the other side to the sound of popping as the sphincter released the suction from the seat, i knew that was the last bad one so relaxed only to have the headlight give up the ghost just as i was leaning in to a gentle left hand sweeper. yay i thought, what else is this trip going to throw at me, a lovely lady stopped to check if i was ok and provided me with light to get the bike to a safer place to work on it then went on her merry way once i convinced her there was nothing else she could help with, interestingly, 6 cars went past in the time i was stopped and 4 stopped to see if they could help, as it turned out it was a blown fuse which i had spares so i was on me way again and arrived home about 30 mins later.
Thankfully i never met any dogs on my trip or things obviously would have been out of my control and a not my fault accident surely would have ensued.
Every bike ride is a great bike ride but occasionally ya get one that decides to test ya skills.
all in all a Bloody good ride with great company and a great weekend, what more could ya ask for.
Not much other than ...
1; someone to clean the mud shitte off my bike
2; pubs that stock león rojo though must say the Naesby Ancient Briton tucker was very nice, and they did have one bottle of it, just the one.
3; to in 11 months forget about how cold t'was (jeez! bike was stuck to the paddock) and start packing to do it all over if allowed.
4; another good ride, here's a destination idea?
