But as I'm bloody usless with names then i will need a few more details ie; Mk? as I know a couple of white Le Mans.

You mentioned in the radar detecter thread that your Hubbi has a 1100S is that a MG 1100sport?
Not sure of the Mk sorry, I've only seen it once. A really keen rider. He did the Southern Cross last April, goes to lots of rallies. His name is John Douglas, but all his mates call him JD. He's also got a Kawasaki dirt bike. Dark hair, really nice bloke. Him and a few mates are crating up their bikes and going to Europe in May.

Do you go to the Guzzie rallies? The last one was in Greymouth I think it was, perhaps Westport, at Labour Weekend. Previous one was in Napier. Have got a couple of keen Guzzi mates here in Wgtn who go to them.

    Hubby's bike is a BMW R1100S.

Yep, know the fella but not that well. A good mate of theres is a mate of mine he has a Mk4 and two Mk3 and a chook chaser aswell (Rik Cowan) Hes been asked along for the OE trip.

Yep, again I've done the last Two MG rallys in the S/I they are rather quite not your usual rally but good value catching up with people you havent seen for a while. The weard thing about this rally is that every were you look theres them funny looking V2's none of which are the same.

Ok..... now I could start the post like this 'F me its a simple question a simple person could answer it' But I wont clown around any more ;-)
So instead Id like to say thank you to the person that P/M me with the answer.

Now, I have an understanding of what your roads are like up there, and why you have this term 'lanespliting'
As we dont need to do this down here to get to work on time or whatever. I did figger that it is what was explained to me and if you were to try this manover the A holes down here would knock ya off just to despite you, hell the cars do it to them selves. I think that you may have the % of traffic but we have the % of anti bike wankers.
    cheers DD

Now Im thinking that its riding between to rows of traffic eather both going in the same direction or opisite. Eather way I would think that this is eleagle weather you indercate or not. You would most likely be done for dangerous or cearless, indercating or not.
I was ticketed for it. According to the cop if I undertook in the same lane I was breaking the law as long as I was on the right of the lane I was Ok. this was on the m/way and the traffic was crawling.I pointed out to him that the first rule is keep left, and had the cages been doing that I could not have undertook them and would have been able to get by on the right of the lane, it did not work instant fine $150

Thats stink, was the traffic stationary? u can legally pass on the left as long on the traffic in tht same lane is stationary or is turning right. If the traffic was moving (even slowly) ur stuffed and will get ticketed:disapint:

Kiwi Rider mag had a pretty comprehensive letter from a cop about the legalities of lane splitting - as I read it its virtually all illegal and they will write you up for it, especially if they are not making quota.

Does it really matter if it's legal or not? If the traffic is slow enough and thick enough for most lane splitters then how exactly is the cop gonna catch you??

BTW Marty the Stalker can show the same speed on both the target and patrol readouts. There doesn't have to be a difference.

not in same lane mode it won't. in opposite yes. that's if the unit is a DSR model, if it's the older 'dual' model it can only do opposite lane or stationary. i don't know if the central highway units have the dsr, but i'm presuming the VY model commodores are fitted with them.

Legally NO. You are not allowed to share a lane with another moving vehicle at ALL.....Lane splitting is ONLY permitted when traffic is stationary and is NOT PERMITTED at any other time.

This has all been posted before.......I can't remember when - but I actually quoted the LTSA Transport Act with the clause.

Here you go found it HERE,

You will generally get done for -

    • illegal lane change
    • failure to stay within your designated lane
    • reckless driving
    • dangerous driving
depending on the mood of the cop.

PS - word of warning......cops have been briefed in Wellington to look out for lane splitting with the whole focus on 'Accidents happen at Intersections'.

That's just bloody marvellous. At least half my morning journey has to be lanesplitting.
And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.
