The most obvious reason for anonymity is that some (most ?) of us along the line admit to (or brag about) doing things that are not strictly legal. And sometimes make some pointed remarks about the constabulary. I don't have any concerns about the police members misusing such information. But the site is googleable (put you site nick into Google and see). So if people used their real names there would be at least some concern that some weasel at police HQ might tumble to it.

Also some folks have very nice bikes. Bikes that other dishonest people might like. Handy if you're such a dishonest person to know where to go looking.

Old--I think as ya get to meet the real people behind the persona they stop being hidden. There are those who are computer geeks-out to shit stir. and actually have never owned a bike--probably never will --they tend to fade away after a couple of months.
I suspect too that in certain cases when it comes time to put money where mouth is they know darn well they'd fall short.

Not particularly worried about being busted for illegal wrongdoings, but as a rule of thumb I don't put my personal information on the internet more than I can help it. Spam and identity theft are two of the many reasons!

I've been to a couple of KB events (not as many as I'd like) and hope to meet more people here, but I certainly don't hide my identity when I do!

Of course, none of you can ever know my secret identity...
Remember to never split an infinitive. The passive voice should never be used. Do not put statements in the negative form. Proofread carefully to see if you words out. And don't start a sentence with a conjugation. (William Safire)

    Oldrider ,
You may be lucky enough to live in a part of NZ where to don't need to lock your doors at night . However , I wouldn't be too trusting about posting to much personal information on an internet based bulletin board which can be read anywhere in the world. For example , if you put up your full name , date of birth and enough information about where you live then you could fall victim to ID thieft. I think another member has already had a credit card opened in their name and has had to deal with that. Just a thought.
For me , I gained the nickname mooch by a few motorcycle friends a number of years back , we tended to call each other by nick names rather than by first names hence I use mooch here. (I think mooch translates to couch patato )

Might be guilty of having some store some gear while I'm over here. Can you bludge friendship ?

Some of the alter ego's provide extra entertainment for the KB crew, Zandalee is a good example of this [no it is not me!], she stands an excellent chance of being an alter ego, as does Fish. Alter ego's such as these provide an extra dimension not available outside of the internet and IMO the trick is not to take a them to seriously. Guess it is a bit like Porn, no one is making you watch it!

    ALTER EGO'S

    - cant figure out if WINJA is the Ego or the Alter Ego.

    - FISH - this one is a hard one.. def a KB Senior Member ( Spagathorpe Wheezehound gives it away to a degree..) i have it narrowed down to a few possibilities...

I am on a couple of trade sites that require full name and the name of your business and location, the international site (iATN) sees 90% US posts and they are happy to be open about themselves, the NZ site (MTA) sees no traffic at all,no one in this country is going to say anything contoversial where word spreads like wildfire and the all seeing eye swings in your direction.I value my privacy and seldom speak up in company....but I still think about what is being said - Motu is the thoughts of the quiet guy sitting in the corner.

What Ixion and Mooch said - Google is a great friend, but too much personal info on the interweb can be dangerous.
