[QUOTE=TonyB]I hate to be negative, buuuuuuut:

    >>It's supposed to be dual purpose right?

No to me - It's an 'all roads' bike. And i'm cool with it being 90% road 10% dirt - thats how I envisage riding it

    >>That kewl front disc isn't going to like soft sand or mud

Why not - other discs are OK

    >>That belt drive isn't going to like shingle

It's pretty well encased - I'll give it a nudge on some dirt tomorrow and we will see.

    >>That underslung muffler isn't going to like bouncing over stuff.

It seems to have an outer guard. But I'm not looking for 'big air' I just want something I can punt along some dirt roads.

    >> The frame doesn't take kindly to even a minor spill as Two Wheels found out when one fell off it's side stand. Didn't so much hurt it as scatch the buggery out of it.

Not very likely either. I's big and strong and not prone to dropping bikes.

    >>As you were

    Always - discussion is good.

Go and take one for a burn. Eddie will have one?
It would be an add to - not replace the Trumpets.
But I need a decent 2-up run before I say any more.

It works like a speed triple for tall guys.

If im not wrong, the 'tank' is not a tank at all. The fuel is kept in the frame, its a dummy tank.

BIKE magazine (Sept) has an article on the fifty best cornering bikes of all time. The surprise winner (to me anyway) was the Buell XB12R Firebolt.
Its not a bad article eh? I quite like that mag. Word to the wise: in WGTN the mag cost about $22 at a magazine shop. At whitcoulls at cost $15 (reading cinemas). Pays to shop around.

Yeah, not sure i would feel that happy if I crashed my bike and split my tank as well as my frame, if you know what I mean.

Still, I would say that the XB12's are my favourite looking streetfighter bikes...more so the XB9X.

I also prefer the look of the XB12R. Although, for naked bikes, the best looking one would have to be the MV Augusta Brutale!

Ahhhh, I seeeee. I got the impression it was aimed at the BMW GS type beastie, but it's more of a competitor for the Ducati MultiStrada? I that case ignore my comments.... buuuuuuut.... the bike it's based on is a nimble handling sprotsbike- whats this one like on a gravel road? Could be a bit tweeeetchy?

Fair enough. I reckon the Buell is more 'overtly' (sp) a streetfighter than the Augusta. Youre not going to see a plastic fake tank on an italian bike eh? And why not I say. Besides, and we are talking looks here, Im not a fan of the trellis/ladder looking frame of some of the european bikes.

100% correct guys, so no you wont be able to see how much is in the tank, altho you will be able to see the wee fuel pump thingy (I think that is what is is) doing its thing and the airbox and thats about it

damn I love it! Just got back from a wee blat ....with the Nero Corsa MG putting along beside me .....hehehe...guess who REALLY needs new LOUD pipes eh Dangerous?!

No, you'll see a fake carbon fibre one. Quite a few modern bike's "fuel" tanks are in fact nothing more than an airbox cover and a way to hide the pipe that goes to the real fuel tank. Only old school bikes have fuel tanks between the rider's knees.

The XB9S is a hoot. I've ridden one.

Much like a Hyosung GT250 only smaller, faster, and American.

I imagine the XB12X would prove somewhat more useful across a broader spectrum of riding conditions.

    Bugga!

I will do a Bart Simpson, I'll stay in after school and write out 100 times, "It's not a bloody tank it's an airbox cover".

Fuel in frame? Oil in swingarm? Does the rider still go in the usual place?

There's a locating "pin" on the seat.
