    lanesplitting limits

Okay, I do it all the time. Just can't help myself. I merge back into the flow if the traffic on the motorway is moving at approx 55-60 k's on a 2-lane and 30-40 k's on a 3 or 4-lane.

Personally, I'm just pleased to know that the I am getting to where I am going a lot quicker than the cagers or the sardines.

As I am sure most of you do it, at what speed do you determine it is safer for all concerned to merge back into the traffic flow?

I ask because, though I'm not jealous or nuffing, I see riders splitting lanes at 100k's +. Is that you?
No matter what shit you got in to in the past, your future remains spotless.

For me it's not a matter of how fast, but how much faster than the other traffic.

Normally I'll split up to 20ish ks faster than the traffic that I'm splitting past.

I do it but I don't enjoy it! It's often dangerous and the 'police paranoia' invloved is frustrating.

If I were to give up filtering completely I may as well drive a cage!

Sort of sums it all up, really!

Don't really want to start a large debate on this but I have an interesting anecdote to share.

I discussed this whole "lanesplitting/filtering" thing with a local HP recently and got some interesting advice.

The local Welly police believe there is a difference between the two.

Filtering is where you are moving quickly from lane to lane through the small gaps that appear through the traffic. According to the HP representative, this is perfectly legal and if you don't do it stupidly or dangerously you can do it up to the speed limit without being pulled up at all.

Lanesplitting is where you occupy the same lane as another vehicle and you will get pulled up for it and done if seen.

As for how I ride - I only have 5 demerits left until I lose my licence. I'm being good until at least October 25....
And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.

    Unhappy

After seeing a mate get crunched when were both in our teens, I have very rarely done it since.

He was probably doing about 20-25 kph when a car moved over and he basically got sandwiched These days he still has more metal in him than the average cage, and a fast hobble is about his limit on foot.

Yeah true Simon, I used the word loosely, should have said lanesplitting cos I quite like filtering! :spudflip:
