Decision time

1993 DR350 with BB exhaust
1998 XR400 stock standard

I want to buy another bike, am unsure what to go for. I want a 4 stroke, and I am 6 foot 4, and weigh 110kg, so I figured I look at 300+ cc. I have ridden my brothers 05 KLX300R, and that hauls my fat ass along very well, but I dont have that sort of dough to spend, Im looking round the 3-5k mark, and the two bikes listed above seem to be quite popular in varying years and conditions.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

93 is a tad old, I'd go for the XR.

tristan, if I said "N4CR", would I then know you as well?. Or have I got my wires crossed?.

I have had a good run with Suzuki's and Yamahas, and owned a couple of Kawasaki's, but have yet to own a Honda, I think thats my only reservation about the XR, is no prior knowledge of that breed. I guess the XR name has pretty much etched itself into the hall of fame, so perhaps it would be worth the gamble.
A 1999 XR400 just came onto the radar for 3900, so I'll keep an eye on that.
I really only want to go for a bit of a splat up and down the river, and maybe do rides like the Rai Saddle (Nelson), and more adventure based riding, rather than racing hard out, the XR looks pretty solid, and I have been used to riding large road bikes for the last 17 years, so a chunkier bike appeals to me.

The XR would probably be the better bet.
And you could do some of the Laidback Trail Rides around the area.

Yep, I'd go for the XR too, the post '97 XR's are a great trailbike.

I had a '97 XR400 for 5 years - it hauled my fat ass around at great speed and never let me down once. I did everything from Enduro to Adventure Rides on it.

Just give it good oil, often and you'll be jake.

Thanks for the replies troops, unless something major thwarts my plan, I will acquire a 98 or 99 XR 400, I have just been and tried one of for size, and its a good size for me.
