So If Yamaha and Honda combined budgets and were alowd to spend $700 million, could they beat an F1 car? No,they can't...so money is NOT the issue,it's just that CARS ARE FASTER!!

F1 aint cars, they more resemble a space shuttle than they do cars, they do have 4 wheels tho, ill give u that..and to my way of thnking when comparing the 2 id compare what normal people can buy...good luck buying an F1 farrari! but if you like next year you can go buy an M1.

In my original post I was just listing an example of a test where a bike was faster than a car. I know they are faster and when i picked up the magazine i was expecting the porsche turbo to shit all over the bike. I was very surprised that the bike beat the porsche. I know that in general that cars are faster than bikes but was just trying to illustrate that whilst the top (f1) cars shit on teh top (motogp) bikes that a road superbike is capable of beating a relatively good car. A porsche turbo isn't that slow a car and I'm sure that i wasn't the only one surprised that the bike beat the car.

But the guy who can afford to buy the McLaren/Mercedes road car isn't going to buy an R1,and if he did it'd just be to put in the garage line up.We buy bikes for the performance...cars are bought for different reasons - apples and shampoo.

Exactly, in general terms (ie not including F1 cars and purpose made stuff) a big bore bike will be faster than a car. In a straight line they can be about the same with some top Supercars doing 3.2+secs 0-60mph ......and depending on the track then often the bike can beat the Supercars.
Main point is the cost difference and skill involved.
Trouble is most cars are deceptively easy to drive fast close to the limit especially with all the latest driver aids...whereas not many people can ride a bike at 10/10ths
Its great that you can buy a modern superbike for $20,000 and beat cars worth $1,000,000 or at the very least keep up with them (assuming you can ride well that is)

You wanna try loggin onto www.oldschool.co.nz and telling them that their cages are nothing in performance to bikes, that bikes are more fun and generally 'better' i found it very amusing the responses they had to my few comments. Good bit of entertainment put together alongside some of their other members.

[QUOTE=MD] . Lets not bother even looking at the piss poor car quarter mile times. Ok well the 10 almost halved the cars time and the 636 was about a second behind that.
    [QUOTE]

    The ZX10 did 6 - 7 second quarters?
    That's one fast bike.

O - 60 times are misleading when comparing bikes and cars. Most 600 to 1200 sports bikes of are in the 2.8 to 3.2 sec range. It has nothing to do with power or traction, more to do with resisting looping it. Check out bikes 0 - 100 mph times, no production car comes close. The only quicker cars are dedicated drag cars or open wheel racers.
But ultimately cars are faster and quicker.
    Speed doesn't kill people.

    It definately wasn't stock then!!!
Most Superbikes are doing low 10's with the odd very high 9.

‘Course a gokart would make me look silly, but I’d still maintain I’m having more fun.

I was 2 secs faster around our dirt track on a bike than the car lap record, corse they weren't going to have a bike lap record were they? But it was a shit load of fun in a car - you could spin out,hit the bank or wall, fly off into the infield and slam into another car, what a hoot.Twas scary shit on a bike, but I prefered to ride a bike out there anyway.

Cars are slow and expensive. Recently someone pulled 300 kph at the sprints on a gixxer. I can gaurantee there isn't a road regesterd car that can do 300 kph that cost less than 30 grand brand new.

I can also gaurantee that I'll kick your arse when you're driving down the wellington motorway in rush hour traffic on friday night in your cage. And that's when it counts.
