    I've crashed .. now what?

    Ok,

Firstly I'll explain my situation (in breif).
*I work 5 mins from home, at lunch I ride to the bakery, then ride home to eat (usually takes around 5 minutes max at 50km/h).

So I've picked up my lunch I'm riding to home and , some cage in a driveway pulls out on me, REALISES; and then STOPS completely all over my side of the road (Probably panick'd once he realised I was there)

I'm going to hit it, no matter what. SO I BRAKE HARD (Front and Back), pull a minor stoppie as I brace for the impact,(THANX 4 TEACHING ME SMORGEN!!).

Then I jump like fuck to try and clear the cage's bonnet. My knees don't make it past the handle bars. I flip, but land on my feet, on the guys bonnet. Like f*cking standing up perfect. Isn't that like f*cking amazing!!!

    This IS NOT BS

Anywayz, momentium carried me on and I ended up carrying forward and fell on the road (slight skid). I'm fine, gave my bones a shake up but apart from a few cuts, I'm sweet. The driver is still in shock, was overly apologectic + had just had his last car written off by a Drunk Driver 2 weeks ago and has only had this car for 1 week.I'm feeling really sorry for this guy, I won't enjoy having to claim back the costs of my bike from him.

What do I do with my bike now? It's just sitting near the end of the road. It's also booked in for a service at Spectrum next week? Or would it be a right off?
It wont start and the tank has been ripped from the bolts that hold it down. ALl fairings have been smashed.

first off, that sucks dude, sorry to read that.

I assume that you got the guys details? Call your insurance company now, and explain to them what's happened, and the guys' insurance details. They'll send you thru forms, and it'll all go from there. It'll take a couple of days.

Next, get onto the phone to Spectrum (decent guys, they sort my bike for me), and ask if they can go pick it up in their ute, or if you know anyone who can pick it up for you. You don't want to leave it on the side of the road alone. Until the insurance is paying up, nothing is going to happen with the bike, and by the sounds if it, it's not going to be riding anywhere either. I'd do this sooner rather than later. If Spectrum don't do the ins work, I'm sure they can help you out getting it to your place, or keeping it safe and dry until a gargre is found..

I'd then go stick the kettle on, and chill out for a wee bit..

    Cool

Try to contact Frosty and see if he can help you transport your bike back home.... He has a van.

Did you get the drivers contact details and the name of the drivers insurance company?

At least you are ok... tomorrow you may have a few bruises and be a tad sore.

My flatmate just arrived home, YAY!!

    I'll call Spectrum now.

Insurance, I only have Life Insurance (Didn't think I'd need anything else) I've got his details, he was more than happy to give them to me, advised me he was slightly broke and had no insurance.

    Spectrum -> then bike

    thanks guys.

Bugger...but good on ya for landing on your feet,Felix....

Statisticly most accidents happen a short distance from home,it's bugger to do what everyone else does, but i've done it a few times too.

His insurance Company should sort it for you....

then it is bad news, with no insurance, you are paying. you can take the car diver to court to get the money back, but they may end up paying $5 a week for the rest of there lives.
why would you have a bike like that and not insure it?????

yeah, ditto on what Postie said. If he's decent, then he'll cough up for the repairs. Get a resonable estimate done, or if you're going to go it yourself, then find all the parts you need and then let him know how much. Then go from there. If you need a hand with this, giz a shout, and I'll pop over and have a look. Ironically, I'm building a '95 ZX6 at the mo, but no, I haven't got any spares, sorry..

He had no insurance, you had no insurance.... You're both going to regret this.... Sorry to break this to you but you're not going get any recompense from a broke uninsured driver.

Bugger mate, as the others say, you are on your own. With no insurance to call on you are knackered

the best thing you can do at the moment is write a letter of liability and get the car driver to sign it, try not to let the car driver know exactly what it is but don't lie. you want the letter to state all the drivers details and yours and word it to say that you and the car driver has had an accident, make sure that the letter says what happened and state that it was 100% the fault of the car driver (don;t use those words). anyway the idea is to get the car driver to accept all liability for the accident, this will maek your case a lot stronger if/when it goes to court, it should help you recover the cost if the driver has addmited and signed for full liability

The bike was the perfect deal.
(No issues in talking about it now that it's had it)
    '95 ZX6R
The bike had had a fall a while ago, front fairing required 3 plastic welds, the right needed 1, all "light" stress fractures from not having all the screws in.

The side fairings did have bits broken on the bottom of them, which the guys from "Reflections" were going to have a look at. I'd been prepping it with "Smorgen" had sanded it back and sprayed it over with a coat (or two) of primer (new plans for this Sunday).

There was a flatspot, I think had been from where the previous owner sat it only on 120km/h and had worn out the cam. It was around 6700rpm to 7200rpm. BUt then it sounded and felt fine. Serviced at Red Baron by previous owner.

110,000k's last owner for 5 years. He lived at Hellinsville and travlled to upper Queens Street, Newton. The tyres on the bike were worn on the sides but near full tread in the middle. COST $2,000
