The sad reality is that public transport isn't a viable alternative, so yep many will simply pay the congestion charge.
That’s the core of the liarbore and greens policies.... pay to pollute. Never had a problem with CBD traffic, it’s not bad by international standards.
What’s really needed is a charge for only doing short hops on motorway.
Public transport is dead in the water now as you can’t use it without accepting to wear a gimp mask and likely mandatory scanning in bloomingliarfields 2.5/1.5 utopia. And with current infrastructure backlogs overruns and skills shortage we are 20 years away from an effective network for Auckland.
Even with a magic wand and money to start say completely replicating a London tube style network tommorow, it would be decades in completion....
Yep the congestion charge will just be paid by the poor shop workers and the rich will just go shopping more often as will be few extra parking spaces.
