Legal implications of swapping a motorcycle engine

Anyone know ( not guess) the Legal implications of swapping a motorcycles motor.
I am looking to swap a broken motorcycle engine for a good one that I have found on TM.
The engine will be exactly the same except for the engine numbers.
Does the NZTA or VTNZ or insurance companies have any issues with this modification.

I realize that I probably wont be able to export the bike to another country because the numbers wont match, but that does not bother me.

Happens all time with cars prob a simple form and visit to VTNZ to confirm numbers as long as it's same spec engine. Insurance company will be fine just ring and tell them same as if you modify bike with new exhaust pipe during term of contract .

LVV certification is not required provided that:

Substitution of engines

when compared with the OE engine, the replacement engine:
– is of the same or less cubic capacity, and

– has equal or less weight, and

– has the same or less power output, and

– uses the same fuel (petrol, diesel, LPG, CNG), and

– uses the same unmodified attachment points and system (ie bolts-in), and

– uses the same family of block and cylinder head from the same vehicle manufacturer, and

– is of the same configuration.

Used to be no more than 15% power increase.

Ohh. Channeling the 90s. . .

Only a proofer would remove an engine and not try to increase the power when replacing it.

But I can't say that now.

I still remember as an interested young teenager reading the 'cars for sale' section when the limits were introduced, MK1 and 2 Escorts with 351's and 350's, Vauxhuall Chevettes, Hillman Hunters etc etc all the same. No doubt there were some with 400+ci motors wedged in as well. All going dirt cheap.

You need to fill out MR16 form if you want the NZTA record to be amended. They may need proof or where you purchased motor to see if its recorded as stolen etc.
