hmmmmrmmm. its been bothering me for a bit and I tied some orange rope to the keyring so I could tie it onto the handlebars but now they just comeout so easily think im gonna loose em (and who wants to tie something on everytime)
I know this is a problem with my kinda bike (keys fellout of a RGV loaner from colemans and I didnt notice till I was 10k away) but I hope I dont have to get the whole thing re-cut do I?

mine never actually fell out, but it was one thing i was worried about, so i bought a cheapo "choke" chain from the $2 shop [couldnt choke a rat its that flimsy] and found a stretched keyring. now i just slip that keyring through the one on my keys and away i go. am looking the change that for a clip though, as the ring is really loose and a clip would be faster and easier.
wasnt going to bother one night, changed my mind and hooked em up. get to work and the keys are sitting on the bars basically. so glad i did that. usually i hook em unless im just going a short distance...like wouldnt leave em loose if i was going out of town or more that a few blocks away.

Sorry to say but the bike is built down to a price for Malaysia or Thailand or somewhere & they obviously skimped on the lock. Perhaps a disc lock or a chain would be a good idea.
Which brings me to an old story, one I told yesterday.
Old Yams used to have tragic ignition locks. My mate’s bike was kafutt so he borrowed another’s ex cop XJ750. We left for Turangi from Wgtn at some crazy hour of the morning. We get to Sanson having been travelling at speeds you wouldn’t consider now (of course all on private closed roads) & he points at his dash

Hm, all seemed ok, rev counter was working, Lights were on, LCD speedo was showing zero as we were stopped.
“Uhh?”
Oh, the keys were missing, along with all his home & work ones. No point even trying to look for them.
& here we were part way up the island & he was just about out of gas.
Out comes Mr Screwdriver, that worked the ignition just fine & with a strategic wallop sorted out the tank access issue. Scared me how easy it was. Hardly a secret to thieving shitheads I guess.
The rest of the story involves terrible pisstaking of how many times he had to fill up, he’d say are you sure you aren’t going to fill up & I’d respond that my Katana didn’t have YIDS YADS or any other silly acronym printing on the intake system. + I knew it would do 320k on main tank.
Just exited Waioru & starting up the hill when it went onto reserve at 265. Oh dear, guess we were travelling a little faster than normal. How far is it to Turangi? Slow down a bit- How far will I get on reserve? Slow down a bit more.
Matey had well cleared off so he would beat me there, but the indignity of having to turn back. What if I ran out of gas?No cellphones in those days.

Just about got there & the bike starts spluttering. Turn the choke on. Splutters again. Turn it on some more. . . Pull the clutch & coast up to the bowser.
It was that close, but he heard the bike was not running so I didn’t get away without some gyp.

Interesting. I have never had that happen to me. I didn't think they would come out. I thought once the key was in the 'on' position they were more or less locked into position. Got me thnking now.
