Im pretty pissed off -Opanone people

I'm as a rule pretty easy going (I think) and tend to just let things ride.
This time I can't -Im sorry to rant
I've been happy to loan my van to any KBer in need and I did offer it to the up north riders last weekend.
MY FUCKING VAN HAS FUCK ALL GAS IN IT AND WAS FUCKING LOW ON OIL.
The gas thing -well that up to individual conciences -but checking the oil --FUCK ME I paid Motu pretty damb good money to fit that motor -The last thing I can afford is shelling out another $1500 for a replacement.
Someone shoulda had the brains to check the oil -at least ONCE
    --Rant over --as you were

Fair call Frosty. I read yesterday about the things that KBers like about this site. The biggest thing was other KBers. Let's not bite the hand thats helps. Swings and roundabouts.

    re frosty

Much as I hate to, I must agree with you Frosty 100% , your a bloody good dude who has done heaps for KB and its members, fairs fair guys, he's not made of money.

Sometimes I think some people take advantage of the senior members here.

I have towed heaps of broken bikes and riders home off "My Road", all I normally ask is a small donation to Ash, not aware that this has ever happened.

You have to lift the passenger seat on a van to check the oil and water,it's a pain in the arse and all your pinapple lumps and sunglasses roll over into the cargo space, bugger eh? But you HAVE to check the oil and water, that's what kills them,by the time the gauge is in the red or the oil light comes on it's too late.

    Cool

Fark Frosty that aint nice at all....
I am behind you on this as well.....
Fark guys how hard was it to keep an eye on the oil...
and put some gas back in it...

As Frosty says the last thing he needs is to have to get the van fixed again.

He is one of the kindest guys who will help anyone out at anytime.
He doesnt deserve this at all.

Frosty what kind of Oil does the van need to run on?
    Brand and mixture type/number

You need to state which one as you dont want to get the wrong oil.

yeah, with Frosty on this one guys.. at least out of curtesy, you fill the tank up and check that it's in a reasonable state before you give it back. That's how I've always played it. A 6pk wouldn't hurt too..
As for the oil thing Frosty, may be put a small sticker on the dash board, so anyone else who is fortunate of your good will, will remember to check it

Got to admit that I would be farked off too.

But I don't think it is appropriate to name and shame all.

Had I been on my bike the trip I would have expected the driver to be responsible. I wouldn't usually for example check the oil in another riders ride. Also if I was given a price for the trip I would assume that it was all inclusive unless the organiser said something to the contrary.

NOT saying that it is ok to return the van like that, it isn't, just think it may be a little unjust to implicate all.

What, after Yosh spat the dummy, and the van was still not filled with fuel still (WTF). Thought some of the Opo dudes were/have sent Frosty some fuel (etc.) money. If their haven't, get your fu*ken arses in to gear (appoligies to those that have). Oil is one that a lot of non-mech-minded-perps forget, so I'm not going to be too hard on them there, BUT:
    1. It is a very important check that will see the motor fu*ked if you don't do it.
    2. With the distance the van was going, should have been checked more than once.
    3. Is something that you would/should do on you bike and as bikers should have a practice of checking. Just remember "Cages" need checking too.
You dudes better give Frosty some loving, or at less a few beers with you money. But a really cool thing to do would be to put a bit extra cash towards his racing fund (God knows, he needs it). If you think that is a bit hard, think about the total running costs (include tyre wear and wear on the van) if you had taken your own bike-picking-up vechile and the cost if you had to hirer one.

I'm one of those soft c#$ts who will as a rule always help out, lend stuff, give stuff away etc etc... I have now learnt that the best way to remind people to look after what is lent to them on goodwill is to not lend to them again...Sad but True...Unfortunatly you have to ask..What would the response have been if the engine had been seized due to lack of oil.

Agree with Motu there. The engine can suffer major internal damage before the oil light comes on. Been there, done that, pain in the arse. To skimp on a couple dollar of oil, you'll pay for it in major internal damage and if the engine should still run, its fuel economy will be measured in meters per gallon. The bearings failed and then they're a tough nut to start when cold.

Frosty: Did you tell the borrowers to keep an eye on the fluid levels?

Thought it was common sense to return a vehicle with at least more fuel in it than when borrowed. Know when I borrow a vehicle; always ask if fluid levels need to be checked or they'll be okay for the km I'm going to be doing.

Everything to be said has been by others already. But I'll add my two cents anyway.

You guys need to show Frosty some love, bit of gas, oil and a few beers as an appology for being thoughtless. Last thing I'd like to see is Frosty withdraw the fantastic support he's shown to members of this community.

FF - You're another member whom although I've never met, you're willingness to help your fellow KBers in need. If you think your request of a nominal donation to SM isn't being met (either they're malicously not doing it, or procrastinating and forgetting about it) how about in future, getting the donation from them personally. Then you can rest assured that your wishes are being met.

I'd hate to see the support shown between members here deteriorate because of the actions of a few. Having said that we are all human and do make mistakes. We just need to recognise our mistakes and correct them where possible.

Juzzer is organising getting some money for you Frosty. He sent a PM to the people on the Opononi ride asking for donations. I put $10 in his account. I don't know what other people put in.

And Firefight, that time when you trailored me and Mr. Skid all the way back to our respective homes in Auckland was greatly appreciated. I did make a donation like you asked, maybe I should have asked Spankme to let you know that I had done so.

If the drivers of the van were warned that it used oil, then it seems irresponsible if they did not keep an eye on it. But I have to admit if it were me driving it and I had not been told to, I wouldn't have thought to check the oil level.
