It's opening tommoorw, who will be the first victim of the supposed new state of the art speed policing system with elapsed time options.

I tried a quick google about the radar and all I found was system that detects anyone stopping or objects falling from vehicle. But I do quite believe they have avg speed capability as that is plug and play for many electronic signs around country, govt just needs to buy the software camera upgrade.

Haven’t been that way in big rig in awhile but it’s a said to have a 8% grade section similar to ngaraunga gorge but twice as long. For big rigs the fuel burn comparisons will be interesting compared to coastal route.

Given most traffic will use it it may even make the existing route a more attractiveness option as you still have ability to pull over for a pie, piss or a smoke....

Did this the day express way opened between Hamilton and Rangariri , road was still closed when went to work at 6pm, road open on way home at 2am not 1 single car on road , 636 had a great run

half the people on talk back today said the yanks said they would do it during the war, right after they said they were going to put a big pipe in the ground and fill in the manawatu gorge. We used to start rumours at primary school and see how long they would last. Back in 1919 the main road to wellington was the paekakariki hill, i'm picking they explored several routes into wellington, including where they have run the new road. It would have been like the old mangaweka hill if they had built it way back then and been shit loads longer i guess

I examined a workmates car yesterday. He'd had to spend time next to a truck. About 5 tiny chips in windscreen and a dozen on his bonnet.

Did a scenic cruise along the Transmission Gully yesterday afternoon and it is SWEET. Some nice countryside tucked away in that valley, some nice native bush still hanging in there. The road is quite elevated most of the way so you are often looking down on places like Pautahanui and Porirua from above, gives good views out to sea. Interesting sweepers at the Tawa/Porirua exit will no doubt be given some 'performance testing' by some.
