You might want to favour the outside line quite a bit.
Don't you look at my accountant.
He's the only one I've got.
On a Motorcycle you're penetrating distance, right along with the machine!! In a car you're just a spectator, the windshields like a TV!!
'Life's Journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out! Shouting, ' Holy sh!t... What a Ride!! '
Hate to say it but welcome to the club. Since the Mangamukas dissolved in a similar fashion it's been a PITA up here. SH10 is getting hammered and some poor folks commutes are horrendous.
Businesses are suffering massively, too.
They reckon it's gonna cost $100 million to fix.. Gonna be awhile before the Far North's favourite bit of hoonery reopens.

East coast holiday home owners and extra travel times are at the bottom of the importance list. Permanent east coast residents needing to get to Thames for important appointments are going to be seriously inconvenienced. Like your experience up north, it's the commercial side which will really get hit and the roads will take a hammering. Not designed for HGV's or the increased volume come to that.
A mate recently mentioned that some corners on SH10 are getting very sketchy for bikes due to trucks and traffic damaging the road and pushing up "waves" of tarmac. No doubt with the current monsoon potholes will be breaking out like a bad case of smallpox.
Went down to Whangas yesterday, twice, the cooncil had 3 trucks and 2 utes with warning signs literally cruising along SH1 filling up potholes as they appeared. They were using the high tech shovel, shovel, stomp, stomp hot mix patch.
Summit else to factor in on a ride.

The situation is ever-changing at present and will continue to do so for several days even when the rain has stopped. The "official" websites can't keep up with the rate of slips. Our place is about 3km outside Coro village centre and this area has been cut off from all points of the compass multiple times in the last 48 hours. The road crews are doing a fantastic job but they're always in catch-up mode with slips and downed trees. The best site for updates is the "Coromandel Peninsula Road Status" page on Facebook. It has feedback from people on the road. The Coromandel CFM web page is another good 'un.
here you go lads just popped up on facebook

First opportunity to visit the slip site on SH25A. Its far bigger than it was yesterday and is still moving. The scale of repair job is going to be enormous. More to come
Downloaded the Vid but KB wont allow me to upload the MP4

That looks like Kaikoura earthquake level fucked, but built on clay not rocks, and also not SH1.
Hope it doesn't take as long to fix as the dodgy parts of SH65 and SH6 where the road just fell off, that have been making do with single lane and traffic lights.
The best hope is that there are enough rich jafas with holiday homes who'll get in the ears of those making decisions, that extra distance in a v8 range rover doesn't come cheap.
Riding cheap crappy old bikes badly since 1987
