    1st drag

i had my first drag the other day, from a standing start. Bike made lots of noise, but didn't go very fast, kept even with the other vehicle for about 8m (long time on my bike) until i got into 3rd and ripped it down the hill. uh oh, corner approached and i had to ram on my not-up-to-wof-standard brakes on hard. Anyhow, destroyed that guy. (my friend driving a toyota townace full of people )

I'm not underestimating them, I had a 1st gen MR2 for a while, the 4A-GE is a bloody gret little motor, but it is still a 1.6L

yeah off the line, but that thing has been kitted out with TRD springs bilsteins and brembo brakes front and rear, LSD's and shit like that
so it has been totally stripped out so it weighs about 800 - 900 kg's and with big fat tires it can outbrake me and can corner faster than me and when it comes down to it that is what really matters when it comes to being fast on the road all your 0 - 60 times dont really mean squat
its the same agrument us bikers have over the big yank tanks and there big 6 litre v8's

your motor is still a 250cc (dont get all up im arms - im just using that as an example)
the size of an engine doesnt totally predispose it performance
"theortically" you can get 500hp out of a 50cc engine albeit for several seconds but the fact still remains (yes i am aware that it will have 2/5's of fuck all torque)
I probably just misread the meaning of your first post then gone and put my foot in my mouth
but it does annoy me when people look at a car and say, "nah, it wont go fast its only a 1300." or "its only a 1000."

I agree, during the turbo F1 car days they were getting 1500Bhp from 1.5L motors for qualifying.
I was working under the assumption that it was a standard Levin, which isn't a hugely fast car

yeah well just look at bloody rotaries, they're only a 1300cc engine but would give a fair few bikes a run for there money in a drag race (specially the turbo ones)

Yeah ghost rider has been a bit rusty lately eh.

I might need to sharpen up and stop letting the newbs win

toyata has quoted figures of 175 hp for their blacktop 4age but most of these engines on the road would be lucky to get 140 becuse the owners dont run them on the necessary 110 octane fuel (for obvious reasons) as well as them being heavy as hell and having boatlike suspension, but the IMHO it has one of the most potential motors when it comes to reliablilty vs. power

wasn't it also something to do with dyno'ing it without the ancillaries fitted? Whereas other manufacturers, ie. Honda, dyno'ed it with aircon etc fitted?

pass, i was lead to believe that in order to get that power out of a the silver/black tops you needed to run them on avgas all the time

Telling stories both tall and true about our exploits is a part of the biker culture. Instead of picking Gamgees tale to bits, maybe we should be adding our own?
i tried to 'race' a speed tripple from the lights. i think he wet himself as he tootled away in first gear it was quite funny.
speaking of 0-100 times, i found a spec/test thingy on the honda bros 650 [im getting it soon ] and they do it in 4 secs not too shabby for an oldish bike. they apparently top out at 115mph [185.058ish] but i wont do that would i? i saw some real old bike magazines from when the old man had his brand new xs1100 and they did it in 4.1seconds the bros is faster [though the xs had shitty tyres as sport tyres didnt exist]

    Boat like suspension?
i dont think so. have you been in a car with super strut?
doesnt feel like a boat to me.
my trueno is a 20v black top and yea i dont rate it at all. nice car to drive though. doesnt have superstrut but not bad suspension .
