Sadly won't do more than a couple of hours tomorrow if lucky and Sunday the Beta needs to be ridden.
I need a sponsor so I can ride full time.
Maybe start a youtube.com?
Scratchy Gloves.
Yeah. That'll work.

No I'll just slap a salami down my Alpine Stars.

Was on a ride in the weekend with a bunch of guys and two were on 450's. Didn't realise I would miss it so much…still, they still make them..

Watched a couple of videos on suspension overhauls on them, they got pretty good results for not a ton of outlay
Cool I'll watch that soon.
Last couple of nights over had energy to get into the garage which i have not been doing.
Did grippy tank protection (more pink?!??) and s/w bobbins. That only took an extra hour on lathe and checking for bolt on parts.
Weather looks good tomorrow. . . Submits form. . Charts wiggly path on beeline to take in gravel roads. . .

Seemed like a good bunch but obviously Queensland isn't going to happen.
Knew the forksprings were not available yet.

This thing is so confidence inspiring on the road. Doesn't pitch around on and off the brakes. I guess that's what he's saying about excessive compression damping.
Got onto some good gravel roads, the easy kind which you can rail around the corner and cruise down the straight at 80.
And a few a bit deeper. Not so fun. Front tyre just isn't the biscuits in deeper gravel despite its prowess on the road.
Sunday I did a trail ride which had 50% transport sections. I was a demon on the gravel. My 300 has the correct amount of Strokes and a X20 Bridgestone.
It was pretty rangey when we got to the tarmac so would have hated it on the road but wished for it on the gravel.
Must be a better compromise.
I mean I know why they put these on for the test rides and probably a lot of buyers they won't venture off road. Mind you I got proper scared a few times so a road rider dipping a toe might think that this is what it's like if they try thicker gravel first.
But on the right roads I'm having a ball. When do I change the front tyre?
On roads it's like the same roads are now new. I'm loving riding a bike that if my sprotbike handled like this I'd be asking questions. I've just shy of 600km. That means that according to the book 500km I can up revs to 6000. Cough, didn't do that from 3rd corner.

By the time I got to 4000km, I would just have kept going on the original tyres. They are not that bad despite me having been told that that was the first thing I would need to change. Did plenty of gravel roads, some relatively gnarly stuff too. In wet slippery mud it would have been a very different story tho I am sure.

Better man than I. And I rail along pretty well on the dirtbike. I found today that there is gravel they like, gravel they cope with, and gravel that I'm not enjoying myself. I turned around on a section today. Didn't lead anywhere though.
Was thinking I'll ask about what they would charge for Dunlop Trail Raid for the front when the first service is due.

Ok so today. As I was out Thursday I thought I'd ride the trials bike and bicycle today for general training. But took daughter for a bike ride Saturday and remember that I only suffer bicycles.
Woke up well rested and not hung over. Despite friends over for bbq last night.
Change of plan. I'm riding dirtbike next weekend then 765 for a weekend away, another dirtbike ride, I'll never get closer to getting 1st service out of the way.
Ok so Google maps. Hmm. This is the bustling hub of Mauriceville. Had to ask public to step out of the way to take the picture. Actually it's the return of the loop. Didn't stop for many photos.

Mauriceville is on my (well used to be) my regular north loop ride. Decided to re-explore West Mauriceville. Goattrack in a sprotbike, but and Adventure (sic) on an overgrown trailie. Oh. That's right. Turns to gravel.
That's why I'd not been back. 3 roads explored. Back a bit and take another road that quickly becomes gravel. Sweet.
Go past an Historic Norwegian Methodist church. Who knew? Mind you, I thought they were cooler when they had gods like Wodin and Thor and um , the others.
Then behind Ekatahuna. To Nireaha, Hukanui , Nikau, then link to Pahiatua for an eat. First cafe bakery. Hmm. All day breakfast as I only had cereal. Wonder if they. . .ni, clues in the name. What's in that mate? Oh. Just closed the kitchen. Not even 1.30.
Next bakery. Ok bacon egg paninini. Can you toast that? Ohh. I only have the microwave or the oven.
Ok was nice cold.
Back through mauriceville. Backroad from masterton to featherston. Back home.
Ooh eck. 972km. Ride to the shop will Polish off 1000km for service.

They really have done an exemplary job of making a bike that handles great on the road. For test rides, probably. Tyres grip road great, bike doesn't pitch around at all when braking or accelerating.
I suspect that this will compromise dirt. A revalve will help here but must compromise road surely as it feels so desperately different from the Beta 300 . Then again, it is 100 kilos and longer suspension. But still.
I think a revalve and linear springs will help dirt manners and maybe won't hurt road too much.
Big slab of lamb coming off the bbq.
Time to sign off.
