This January, I was the winning bidder of a 1991 FZX250 Zeal at the Mecum Las Vegas auction. The bike was exceptionally clean with only 11k mileage and (claimed) good compression. Upon getting it to my race shop to attempt start-up, we quickly realized the engine would not turn over because of three of the four pistons were making physical contact with bent exhaust valves (very disappointing). The auctioneer and importer both claimed ignorance of the issue, and told me the repair was my problem. Sadly, all the available engine parts for this bike are in NZ, AUS, & Japan, 7000 miles away from my town in Arizona.
I am in need of a cylinder head assembly (with valves), standard pistons, and a gasket set. My question to the group is …. are the head/pistons/gaskets of a FZR250 interchangeable with the 1991 Zeal 250 motor? …. And does anyone in the group have a lead on where to find these parts? Many thanks in advance for any help.
