I know that road well, it's been a mess for a few years now. The Awakino Gorge is mostly neutered now, that used to be a fun ride!

The new road is for the trucking companies, can you imagine how much it will save them but the public will pay for it one way or another.

And that is the art of political writing. Police have access to ALL (like in any criminal case) that data and used it in court on a work colleague. A months worth of alleged offending was about a two inch high stack of paper with over 300 speed infringements. He got off though as they didn’t do their homework and couldn’t say where the data was stored.

For the average joe it’s prob only going to matter if your in a serious accident but in time as the various technology platforms integrate more smoothly for sure enforcement will become part of it.

Almost worthy of Sir Humphrey in "Yes Minister".

Another interesting question I came across, will there be an instant shortfall in tax when all the cars stuck in Auckland traffic aren’t going very far from a RUC standpoint and are no longer paying any tax on the petrol they’re burning in the process?
Moe: Well, I'm better than dirt. Well, most kinds of dirt. I mean not that fancy store bought dirt. That stuffs loaded with nutrients. I...I can't compete with that stuff.

That's the way. Avoid RUC by getting stuck in congestion.

Out of interest, motorists don't get stuck in congestion; motorists ARE congestion.

If you’ve been to Auckland you’ll know that several hundred thousand of us sit in our cars for long periods of time every day not going very far. There’s no agency involved there, unless you consider the local cycle lanes or public transport routes which are a practical alternative for some, but by no means all.

At the moment, as long as the engine is running, you’re paying tax. Under the new system you’ll only be taxed on distance travelled, regardless of how long it takes you to get where you’re going. That’s going to affect the tax take in Auckland which I thought was an interesting point, I wasn’t advocating one or the other.

If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem?
