Compliance issues

This is a call to all for any advice on getting my TS185ER back on the road. The block is brake (drums) measurement. I was told I need the original factory specs for comparison, The problem is nobody seems to have them in a form that is acceptable to VTNZ. I find the numbers online in copies of workshop manuals but nothing factory or dealer linked that I can give them.
The dealer can't help as they have nothing for something from 1990 and they will not do the measuring as there is no reference info. I can do the strip and measure (with photos) myself but the lack of provable factory spec is the point where it all stops.
Anyone out there with any suggestions - other than buy one already registered?

how worn are they? what are the part numbers, i have a cross reference parts program that will show what other models they fit, and help widen your search, and maybe find a manual with the specs in them? is it not stamped on them like it is with discs in many cases?

No measurements stamped on the drum. The word is that the factory/dealer service manual will do it, but I can't find one. Only the online version and it does not mention run-out limits. I could print that out and have a go I suppose. New linings, so that part is covered.

Is this not enough from the factory service manual to keep them happy? If you've inspected as per the instructions and it's all good then surely that should be sufficient to keep the VTNZ people happy?

That (above) is what i have so far. I will have to try with that lot and photos & measurements and see if that is enough. A while back pre-91 bikes did not need this. No idea why it changed.

If you print the book (I'm sure it will be useful in the garage later anyway) and take it along you can demonstrate you have measured everything the factory service manual specifies to be measured, can't see what else they could require you to do, but it is VTNZ so who knows.

You mentioned run-out in a previous post, that's generally specified for disc rotors, if the service manual doesn't provide a spec for the drums then there's nothing to measure to.

get on trademe and if someone has an old suzuki manual or two, they could well have a stash, ask simply. Again I ask for part number as if you can prove to them the part fits other models, and find a book for that model job done, are they worried about photoshopped

I have been trying to get a Suzuki manual for a while now. The suggestion of printing out the manual and taking it in looks to be the best option so far. The hub part number is 54110-29300. It is the same as the TS125, but the 250 has a different number. The brake shoes are the same as the old 1976 model, but they are not an issue as shiny new ones are fitted.
I will head in with a printout of the manual and a brake declaration form (filled out by me) together with a pile of photos of the parts being measured. I don't imagine VTNZ would want the brakes being stripped and measured on site. Easy enough to measure a disc, but drums are a whole lot more fun.

I really hope to get this old thing on the road again as it will be going to my son.
