    2003 Maicos?!

Just fell in love with this bike. 80hp!!! http://www.motorbikes.be/en/Maico/20...ial%20Edition/

Just wondering, does anyone know much about these Maicos? Suppose they're expensive, hard to find collectors items and parts availablility would be non-existent right?

Maico's history is quite fascinating. The were once the only bike to ride if you were serious about winning in MX, then they made a couple of serious structural blunders with their rear suspension set up, and the bikes literally snapped in half, it pretty much killed the brand name overnight. They earned the name Maico-Breako.

I have no idea what their modern stuff is like, the bike looks pretty beastly.

I always dreamed of having a 501,it was the biggest 2 stroke single you could get at the time.Got close to get a 400 a couple of times....probably lucky I didn't get one. They made some BIG scooters too.

That is absolute insanity. I want one!

I would say 80hp would be conservative too, 500cc MX bikes make around 70hp. It has surprised me that there aren't more motarded CR & KX500's out there.

    Cheers

Not only a shit load of HP,but the way a 2 stroke hits is scary.Even compared to a 4 stroke with the same HP,a 2 stroke comes on much harder - no powerband these days,it's just in your face right now with an incredable surge.Whoever gets to use this bike 100% would have huge balls...

Man, that story is a sad one!

Still, the state of that '03 model, thats just incredible. Imagine the torque on that thing, and the sound! That must sound incredible too . . . anyone know how much one of those would cost?
