Seemed easier to handle & looked like he wasn't fighting it all the time, like the quads riders look like they're doing.

I'll take a few digital pics for you Motu & post a link to them once I get them loaded. Any particular kind of bike you want pics of.. Quadzilla maybe?

Saw the dyno sheet for Quadzilla the other day "only" putting out 220kw although it keeps spinning he tyres on the dyno.

Shack has also put a turbo on his LTZ400 and is planning on running that as well.

I remember when they had the first Race to the Sky televised, the commentators were hypeing up the big names - Monster,Millen,Possum etc,as you'd expect....then the quads came out - you could almost feel their panic! WTF!!! um...ah...that was a good time....and now here comes Monster look at him go! ,but they hadn't expected those silly farm bikes to be setting such incredible times. Now they use the quads as the freak sideshow, and sometimes even mention a bike - if I remember right some were into the top 10,not too bad at all!

I feel I missed out on this stuff - by the mid 70s I had learned to ride fast on gravel, but the gravel road hillclimbs had faded away - that was for the old blokes, hillclimbs, grass track and beach racing. So had to just ride the back roads with a couple of mates who also enjoyed that sort of thing.I got to bluff my way into a car rally sprint on an XR200 one time - and got times the same as the old 4cyl rally cars like MkII Escorts and the like.I would of liked to try again on a bigger bikebut they wouldn't let me do it again.

I like to think what I would do if I had the time money and youth,I don't know what the surface is like, but with so many runners for so many days - if it developed a blue groove I reckon a motard/flattracker could do well.Personaly a low slung flattracker would be better, this would allow you to use the front wheel hard, getting entry and corner speed up,rather than the pivot turn and squirt the dirt bikers do.I prefer a 21 on gravel, but have used 18 and 19s before, having a huge powerful front wheel is a different approach.

The problem with that is the rally cars use the WHOLE road and then some and end up dragging rocks back onto the road

    Well done :):)

    : Congratulations to DebK.. :

17th outright , with a time of 9:31:99, with Monster Tajima winning in 8:17:??.

Pretty scary stuff seeing the bikes go up, especially the ones in the last group after the road got all rutted....

By the way Deb, are all the Kibbles I saw today relations? I saw at 2 others (I think) in various machines.......

    Cheers!

Posh Tourer - Jamie Kibble in the RX7 is my husband and Mark Kibble in a Corolla is Jamie's brudda.

Had a great time and this weekend was our first home relaxing since before Easter.

    Gravel rocks!
Someday we'll look back on this, laugh nervously and change the subject.

Well done DebK, upmost respect for anyone that can thrash a car/bike/quad on gravel to the very limits

Saw it on TV1 today too,we had a glimpse of Debbie going up the hill, but that's a hell of a lot more than any of the other competitors got.Wow,that would be so much fun, nearly 10 minutes of full blast.Beaten by motorcycles eh DebK,but now you are riding you can see what it would take to get those times. That track was real rough too, ruts and thick on the outside of turns, not an easy road.

Well done Debbie to get in with that company - and how was your time at the WRC? work, work, work and see no action?

Davidson Honda in Alexandra built a VTR-powered quad specifically for RTTS too. What a beast!
