    Two smoker cranks Info requested

There isn't a tourer forum so I'll put this here

Is there anyone (ie business) in NZ that can still rebuild a two smoker multi cylinder crankshaft , or is it a dead art ?

I've found that I can get the seals for both Phoebe and Petal . Petal doesn't appear to need doing at present, but who can tell in the future (I've ordered in a set , while they're still available). I wasn't going to include a crank rebuild in Phoebe's resurrection, but as it's now exploded into such a big job anyway, I might as well add that to the list.

I've done crank rebuilds myself in the past, but I never enjoyed it and I was never really confident of my work. So if there is anyone left who can do it (and is good) I'd contract it out.

Must be heaps of people, but if you want an old time duffer to do it send it to Ginger Molloy who still advertises in back of Kiwirider/bikemart.
Don't you look at my accountant.

Without knowing too much about the subject I know that people rebuild the cranks in pre 95 rs125's. Get a cr125 rod kit and then take the crank to an engineering place to get the pin pressed out with a hydraulic press so the new big end can be put in. Don't have a clue about road bikes though. Guess thats what most people do seeing that most factories only continue to make parts for 10 to 15 years after the bike stopped being produced.

Singles are easy, I can do those. Twins and triples are a lot harder.

There used to be a guy in Chch called Barry Lynch (Beaumont engineering) who was very good, he rebuilt my GT550J crank so he's done at least one triple

There was generally a long waiting time though as he was so popular I will try and find out if he is still going as I heard a while back he was planning on getting out of the business

Davis Motorcycles in Morrin Road did a scooter (don't laugh) crank for me a few years ago, and has done them for a while. Lyndsay knight in Pukekohe does cranks and will be doing one of my LC cranks early next year when money, parts and time coincide...
