Arrow Napier's "Pania of the Reef" has been stolen 27/10/05

Its true, this is no bullshit.

The media have gone and taken pictures.
The buggars have just left the concrete base behind.
I hope the miserable swines return her.... and not melted her down.

Pania is has been sitting there for years.

Napier's Pania of the Reef stolen
Napier's iconic Pania of the Reef has been stolen. The Marine Parade statue is modelled on a 13-year-old local Maori girl and has been there since 1954. Senior Sergeant Tony Dewhurst says a crime scene investigator is examining the site. Police believe the statue was stolen overnight. http://home.nzcity.co.nz/news/default.asp?id=56196

I thinks those fellas will get a visit from the bad man. There Tapu involved there and they're playing something they shouldn't.

    Cool

Yep I was down there in Hastings and Napier at the end of April 2005 and I have a nice picture of the two of us together....

The time before that when I saw her was when I was a kid...

Can't believe that some useless swines would do this...

I they recover it - it's not likely to be sold... it's a wee bit too iconic for that (or so I think anyway - any fences willing to put their hands up and comment?

Hm - well developed for 13 wasn't she . Uh *cough cough* as you were, me? no I didn't say anything. Disgusting, that's what it is.

Seriously , yeah, bloody pri*cks. Like to think there wasn't a scrap metal man would touch it, but I know I'm kidding myself.

I reckon they've stolen it for the ransom, like that statue in Kapiti. They got more for returning it than what they would have for the scrap.
Set a dangerous precedent that did.

They better not even think of lifting the lions in Cornwall Park or I'll be really upset with them! How dare they steal Pania, philistines!

Hey, wonder if it's the same guys who stole that statue from Waikanae?
Yes, I am pedantic about spelling and grammar so get used to it!

Hmmm. Wonder if they'll be asking for $10,000 for this statue too...
And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.
