    Tyres? What do you use?

I've just replaced my BT-014's with a set of Pirelli Diablos. I don't have as much confidence in them and even my pillions have said they slide like a greased dwarf. What to get next once I fuck these up?

What are your experiences with rubber? (On the bike please!!)

If you're rich, try Michelin Power Race, Dunlop D208RR is getting a good rep too.

The Avon Vipers on my bike are proving to be quite sticky so far. PM LooseBruce about them, he had a set on his K4 gixer. He's been thru a lot of tyres I think, so he'd have a clue about what feels good on a gix, but there's a few good ones around at the moment..

pirelli sport rears do seem to move around a lot. I think it just takes getting used to, doesnt necessarily mean that their about to let go on you. I ended up quite liking the feel of it the last time I used them.

why did you swap the 014s out? I dont know of anyone whose had any compliants about them or their predecessor models.

Pirelli Mt75s. I had Something Battleaxe tyres on the fzr previously, they seemed to stick quite nicely.

I use Pilot Powers and love them, a 180 section rear changes the handling slightly, for the better in my opinion, however a lot of riders are divided on the 180vs190 rear on a bike like yours. The powers have done a track day and stood up well, i also commute 60ks a day and get 7000ks from a rear. I agree with the pirelli's they are not that hot in the wet either.

Nothing wrong with Diablo's, must be something else causing the back to slide out young fella!

I'm currently on my 2nd set of Diablo Stradas but they're sports-tourers, had straight Diablos before that and they were a great tyre, but didn't last too long...

It's kind of like asking "how long is a piece of string?", as it all depends on what bike we ride, what kind of riding we do, and that sort of thing.

Of course, we all ride like Rossi, need race rubber, and need new tyres every other week. Or at least that seems to be the image some portray.

Me? I ride like a twat. My last four bikes have been sports-tourers, most of my riding has been commuting with the odd bit of touring thrown in, and occasional two-up riding. So, I've by and large been happy with running an ST tyre on the back and sports tyre on the front the last three tyre changes. Currently, I'm running Azaro AV49SP/AV46ST, which is the same setup I had on the VTR, and which replaced BT020s (badly worn Pirellis on the VTR).
I've also tried a BT012f/BT020r combo, which was OK, AV35/36 which sucked, and Stinkos which were OK for commuting but had terrible feel and didn't inspire confidence.

The worst tyres I've ever had were a Dunlop Sportmax (dunno what the model was) and an oversized IRC, both on my VF500.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

I've got Dunlop D208s on the R6 and they've never ever even let me know that they're there. I'm gentle on tyres but after 3400kms the rear is looking like it's on the way out. Not in the middle either you cheeky buggers. I've got some MIchelin Pilot Sport's to try for my next set, thanks to bugjuice and his superb sense of honour and honesty.

I've got BT39s on the CB400 and they're great, except when you rock up on the edge of the rear tyre. Gets all squirmy. Huge strip of unused tyre on the front BT39. Got some Pirelli sport Demons to go on for my next set and I'm hoping the profile's will work together a bit better.
If a man is alone in the woods and there isn't a woke Hollywood around to call him racist, is he still white?

Maybe the Diablo tyres are pressure sensitive, it is something i have only recently become aware of......a few pounds makes a big difference with the pilots.

I have to agree with you about the powers, they rock!! I did find at track day I had to let 2-3lbs out of the rear after 36-7 laps as they start to move around a lot

I use the 190 rear, I found on the R1 it turned in way too quick with the 180

pirelli's SUCK! IMO, no carcus and give you way to much feel, and I only got 1200k's out of a rear in summer.

metzlers, and damn they are awesome, taking corners far easier at higher speed than i was on the arrowmaxes although that could be because the arrowmaxes were bald

of all the tyres i have tried (and i have spent a fair whack of my pay on tyres over the years) i find the michelin pilot range the most confident inspiring of all ,,, maybe its just a stupid mental thing?
