Louise, glad to hear you're okay. I can sympathise with you on the hand injury, they're quite delicate things to repair and it's not an overnight thing. Knowing your personality I can understand why you won't be having a "legal" debate with the neighbour. Money is not the most important thing in these situations.

As Slingshot alluded to - do you see the irony in purchasing some new leather pants a few weeks ago, and now the cow strikes back?

So ya gonna be up for TRTNR or do us boys on bigger bikes get a chance to look good this week?

Maybe they could be trained to recognise the sound of a .308 as that 'keep off the road noise'.

Glad to hear you are ok. Watch that hand, we have a guy here that thought it would get better so didn't go to the docs straight away & he's back here today after being off for nigh on 2 months.

that coulda been a whole pile worse. good to hear your alright though!! if it had been cow shit your run into i imagine the damages would have been bigger to both you and the bike. hows your hand feeling?

cows are tricky things...quite often run into em grazing along the side of the road around here...when ever that happens i keep my speed down and stay as close to the middle as i can [quiet road, few cars]

good to hear you are ok weasel, make sure you get the hand/wrist sorted. As jaz can tell you what a pain those injuries can be long term if not cared for now.

If you need a hand with the bike repairs at all give us a yell.

can you convince the farmer that your bike is a write off and that its a gsxr600 ??

Glad you are ok, I hate to think what would have happened if you had been unleashed on a 600!!! I would imagine the vet may have had to be called to remove a wheel from a cow's backside

Is it just my imagination or are there more KBers having accidents at the moment.

Your lucky you didn't hit the cow at speed. Several years back a local guy hit a cow and didn't live to talk about it.

sympathy goes out to you and your bike.

believe it or not I did exactly the same thing a couple of months ago! I hit a single black cow that was standing in the middle of the road and I didnt see it at all. I didnt even brake and hit it at 100k and took some damage on my thumbs but rest of me was/is ok. My bike was a writeoff.

I was farming for 16 years before the accident (only gave it up this past June) and I was always under the impression that if my stock was on the road and caused an accident I was liable.

After my accident I learnt this is not actually the case. In fact, in order for the farmer to be liable he has to have shown that he has been careless in not keeping his stock on his property. So if the roadside fences *look* ok and the farmer *says* the gate was closed then he is not liable.

On the flipside, the guy who owned the cow I hit had a very comprehensive insurance policy which I claimed against and they decided to payout "in spite of the fact their client is not legally responible for the accident" I just went .. whatever, call it what you want as long as I get paid.

I have said for years and still stand by it that if you own an animal, any animal, and it wanders onto the road causing an accident then you should be liable. Be it a cow or a dog or a donkey, I dont care.

Hope your hands come right. I still have trouble with my left thumb causing pain in the cold weather.

Would you say the same thing if you were missing limbs in hospital... or dead??? no I think not, sorry Velox but its no time to go super duper christian.... you could have very easly been a dead Velox at this point, the farmer needs to learn that his cows need to be looked after better.
Sort it out with him and be sure he pays up for every thing. (dont really think the coppers need to be draged into it tho)
    cheers DD

    Cheers Sniper for the info.

The neighbour did come over and have a chat at the time but it was to see if my hand was broken (he's a doc) rather than about the cows being out on the road. I'll sort that out soonish though.

Nah - that seems to be said on a regular basis I reckon.

Lou - I was actually just thinking about an hour ago of getting out the .303 if I ever see them on the road again!
