Fecking automatic washing machines....

Great smirking while cube of smug pus.... Thinks it's feckin' funny to .... oooohhh I's mad.... I hates them I do... So simple you think you can fix it... So complicated you can't quite.... aaarrgghh!

Then when you think it's fixed... You can't trust em can you... Water on the floor.. grrr! Not like you can smack it with a rolled up newspaper or rub it's wringer in it.... Damn thing is headed for the tip i tells ya!

And while I'm ranting... How the bloody hell can the women in my house not notice 11 bra wires and 14 bobby pins missing...

Then , she tries to tell me it's not hers! Hers are "different". Somehow. Well, it sure as hell isn't mine!

I don't go near Gentle Annie,she's a mystery to me....I never had to go into the old wringer job,those things never wore out,and those enamel bowls made nice big planters.

But I delved into the old concrete block auto many a time,belts and brake shoes,water pumps and hoses,water on the floor,working in confined spaces.But one time we called in a repair man because oil was getting on the clothes,I wasn't game to do an oil seal on the back deck.When he got the bowl out he found a thick,like 1/4in thick and 1in wide band of black grease around the top of the bowl,it was running down into the clothes.Some dirty bugger at home must of been rolling in grease for years....

Hey,let me tell you about my great laundry set up I had on Waiheke Island.We were on tank water with a septic tank,and with a couple of young kids it was pretty obvious the septic tank couldn't take a wash a day,and nor could our water tank.This was a new house we built,on sticks,with bathroom and laundry at opposite ends of the house.What I did was run a 5/8 hose from the bath,through the vanity and under the house,then ran it into 1in alky over to the laundry,then up through the floor to the washing machine.The bath water was pumped into the washing machine for the wash,with a fresh water rinse.The washing machine outlet went down to a 500 gal holding tank - in summer I used this to water the garden,in winter the hose just ran to the bottom of the section to the farm behind....just grey water.Only the shitter and kitchen sink went in the septic tank.

It took me years to perfect the pumping method....At first I used 12V bilge pumps,used 3 or 4 of those over the years of different sizes,plugged into the vanity with RCA plugs.My power supply was too weak to start the pump,so used old batteries and a charger,just giving them about an hr a day,always a ready supply of old batteries in a gargre.It was a bit of a pain - you had to put the hose into the washing machine,go into the bathroom and rig up the pump,then keep an eye on it till it was full,the bath emptied into my holding tank too.That was my daily routine before going to bed,pump the bath water out.

But the bilge pumps didn't last long,and I wanted to just flip a switch in the laundry and have the pump go,that switch worked the charger with the bilge pump method.So I got an electic motor and mounted it under the laundry,and used a drill pump,um,a couple of drill pumps,but they can't take the punishment,they crapped out quick.I tried an impeller pump,but that was unsatisfatory too.Then I found a brass vane pump - oh boy,this was one powerful beast! Worked like a fire hose! After a bit of experimenting with pulley sizes I got a reasonably controlable flow that would empty the bath in a couple of minutes.Now I just dropped a filter into the bath,walked into the laundry and flipped the switch.

It's not just my bikes that get the Mickey Mouse touch y'know....

Bra wires, bobby pins and water pumps in washing machines don't play well together. I've had to fish these little bastards out more times than I'd care to remember.

Worst thing is....

'it just stops'... So.... since we have been having troubles with the malicious whiteware I got out the tools etc, stipped the bits I know about, prodded they bits I don't and nothing wrong... Except, yup, the girls are right, just gets to a certain part of the cycle and stops dead....

The spin part...

You know the part that you don't use if you are washing drip dry clothes...

Hey Paul,

Sounds you are in the same boat as me, Our stupid machine won't do nothing, all the lights come on properly but you push the start button and nothing happens. I think one of the sensors is bunged up or something but haven't figure out what yet. Did this about 6 months a go and I pulled it apart couldn't find anything wrong put it together and worked until the other week . I suppose I'll have to do something when I run out of clothes Makes good study breaks fixing motorbikes, washing machines, ...
