edit: sorry mate I havent had that problem but I think you should be fine

yoyu are only legally oblidged to talk about speeding tickets etc when they ask you. because insurance works on a year by year basis (its a contract) you MUST mention ur traffic offences when they ask or they can legally decline your claim, even if the other party is at fault.

but its also a good point to know, insurance these days, they basically are a casino, they set rules based on the risks. remember the house always wins
they take your money and earn fuckloads of money by investing it. basically as a claims handler (what I used to do) is to make sure the claim cant be covered then make sure we dont pay for anything we dont have too.

You (or whoever you have in mind? ) will probably always be discriminated for that, once you blemish your driving record it will never be totally clean again and will always go against you. I guess it's procedure with some insurance companies to overlook any disqualifications after a certain period of time, but I've heard that some of them just don't want to know you!

Best advice I can give to any of you who want to get the best deals & prices for insurance, and that goes for buying & selling bikes too - learn how to negotiate! Don't be afraid to ASK for the best pricing, in the case of insurance do some research on the current policy values and get several quotes, put the quotes up against eachother and use the best price as leverage to negotiate what you want!!!

Yeah...I'm guessing I'd be lucky to find a company who won't discriminate for a temporary loss of licence, because like Pyro says, they look for any excuse to raise premiums or not pay out...

which I think is stupid, 'cos my tarnished driving record does not cost them a cent (has cost me an Ohlins rear shock though...@#%^...I'd love one of them), and my 5 years no claims should be enough to prove that I'm a relatively low risk client...all it shows is that I didn't check my mirrors twice in 2 years...*sigh*

I didn't know insurance co's were up for negotiating though (edit: thought that they just had their risks and ratios worked and charged you from their little sheets)...cheers Zed, will try it on with all my charm next time

youd be fucking lucky if you got a big insurance company to lower their pricing. the top 3 personal lines insurers (AMI IAG AA) wouldnt touch it. basically its kinda like your tier one helpdesk at xtra. you call up, they tap tappity into a computer and it comes back with some answers with the operator often not knowing what their doing.

sales and new claims departments can be run by school kids.

When I was a fresh faced 18 year old I rode an MZ ETZ125 (sort of like riding a tank but slower). It cost me 400 UKP but insurance is compulsory in England. Because I was young, dumb, riding on a learner's licence and living in a high risk area (Manchester) the insurance cost me about the same as the bike had - just for 3rd party. About a month after I paid the premium the bike was stolen (you can start an MZ with a screwdriver - I don't think they'd invented the key in East Germany then) and joyridden into the ground. After the excess the insurance company gave me about 150 UKP back, so they made a direct profit when my bike was stolen. Fuckers.

I always wondered if they were the ones who stole it. Let's face it, they've got your name, address, bike details, they know what your job is (so when you'll be home asleep) and they're a bunch of immoral wankers. Hmmm...
Remember to never split an infinitive. The passive voice should never be used. Do not put statements in the negative form. Proofread carefully to see if you words out. And don't start a sentence with a conjugation. (William Safire)
