    top gear tonight

any one see top gear tonight? they were saying that in the UK motorcylcles are going to have their exhaust noise limited to 70 odd decibels ,,, and any one caught with a noisey exhaust can have it confiscated!
we dont know how lucky we are ! hope it never happens here!

    It will happen here.

If whinging residents can have Western springs raceway limited to a certain level, then some beauracrat will decide that exhausts need to be tamed.

I remember reading a bike mag years ago, about noise tests on bikes in the UK, and the method was to put a unidirectional microphone on a racetrack/quater mile track, get the bike off the mark, the hook 2nd, and wind it full open past the mike. They could not get noise tests dont on the V-Max or FJ1100, because both of them would just light the back wheel, creating a hell of a racket.

    Bad thinking there fellas

70dB is about the same sound level as a lightly snoring baby.

well there is an international standard for noise measurement so I hope they would use that instead of making up their own mickey mouse one.....yeah right

CLARKSON IS A COCK , IN ONE SENTENCE HE TALKING ABOUT THE DB8 BEING HEARD FROM 2 MILES AWAY THEN HE CONDEMNS BIKES FOR BEING NOISY, PEOPLE FORGET THAT THE BEAURECATS START WITH ONE THING BEING NOISY THEN SHIFT TO THE NEXT , SO WHEN BIKE RIDERS LOSE THE CAR DRIVERS WILL BE NEXT

Sounds rather counter productive to me.

Trouble is in NZ it will work the other way - noisy cars will bring out controls that will effect bikes.

The Residents were whinging because Western Springs had made no effort to comply with the noise regs already in place

Something I've never understood is how boy racers are penalised for loud exhausts, pink stickered etc, and yet HD riders seem to be immune even though a lot of them are 10x louder?

Don't get me wrong, I don't have a problem with the police dealing with excessively noisy vehicles (although we may dissagree on what constitutes "excessive"...) but surely one rule for all?

I only say this because I used to live just off a fairly main road, and whilst the loudest vehicles on the road would have to be ported rotaries (HATE HATE HATE!) the ones that would wake me up at night would usually be gangs of HDs going by with straight pipes on.

And I've NEVER seen one pulled over. Is it because the police are scared of the gangs? (probly fair enough if they are... I would be...)

Clarkson is a bit of a bike-o-phobic all right! And so much for his integrity by agreeing to the manufacturer that he would not reveal any information.....
There is abit more about the bike noise topic on the topgear website I believe. I googled "Jeremy Clarkson" and found some of his weekly articles and it was amongst them. Will try to re-find and post link!

What about bloody trucks? They're far noisier than bikes and cars.
Remember to never split an infinitive. The passive voice should never be used. Do not put statements in the negative form. Proofread carefully to see if you words out. And don't start a sentence with a conjugation. (William Safire)

He has vaild point, he was talking about shitty sports bikes the sound of a sports bike only appeals to sport bike riders, IMOPO they sound shit. Cruisers and big cars sound good. Think of it like big bore's and BOV's they sound utter tripe to most people except the dickwad who drives it at 8000rpm in the mall parking lot. But when you hear a lambo drive past with a mean low grumble (and the looks to go with it btw) its nice. Same with cruisers Looks+ sounds = good. Sports bikes arnt built for looks or for sounds so I win.

I do like sports bikes, and I agree with myself, they sound shit. I did own one, for a little while
Then I could get a Kb Tshirt, move to Timaru and become a full time crossdressing faggot
