Thanks for replies. Am steadily getting over it. I guess we'll see what it says when the ticket comes through.

Heh, I got home after said incident and saw a TL1000 (I think) whistle past my window at 1/2 the speed of sound and ten times noisier. Hope he got round OK...

Problem is what this means for the longer term plan to get a real bike. I guess CBTA just went out the window. On reflection I was lucky not to get whacked for "more than 70 on a learners" too.

    Bugger.

That was the fun part about having a scooter. You could floor it, constantly, and never get busted for speeding

Buggar. By the looks of all these stories its not a matter of if, but when. Touch wood (is this bad karma to even post this here?) I havent had a ticket on the bike, yet. I had one in my car 14mths ago just after I'd bought it (isnt that the way). So, I carry, still, demerit points for that, which will get added to by any catch me on my bike. I dread the day I have to post my woo's here. (where's more wood....)

Perfection is not something you should ever attain, but something to always strive for. For if we actually achieve our idea of perfection, is it then any longer perfect?

    shame

ya know its a real shame that police will stab you for every penny you are worth when you are breaking the law- which is fair enough - right?

but where is the descretion these days?? huh!.... say i could be cruising through a school area at 3am in the morning at a safe but illegal 65kph.
now although the speed limit is 50kph i would never do that at 3pm in the afternoon when all the kids are coming out to go home cause its just silly!! i would be lucky to tap on 20 kph till im out of the zone. which is using my common sense to make the area for the kids safer to leave incase you get on the 'jumps' in front of you.
if all policemen/women could be like this it would go a long way to smooth things over between us and the police.

this is not saying that police are useless, i look up to police that work to help make this country a safer place and congratulations to them

    rant over

    Cheers, Glenn

I feel the same but when we have people shooting stock on the farm, and this happens once or twice a year, I call the police and get no help to apprehend the f#ckers. I have to take the guns of them and then take them to the police station. I go out on the road and bam that will three hundred dollars please. So you wounder why there is bad blood. It will be mine one day and no thanks to the local cops..........................Like you Glenn Rant over..............

Amen brother...only one way to deal with it...just gotta make sure your riding can cut it too...they ain't real slow, but a 600 with a half decent rider will wax them everytime (not sure about their bikes though, never had one of them)

You might get away but if they spot the rego and you do a runner, it'll cost a hell of a lot more.

That's always a consideration ofcourse...the christmas tree heading for you is usually a good indication that you should put yourself out of plate spotting range.

had my spells in a fast loud red cage... lots of tickets and almost lost licence thanks to the special points they give you when you donate to govement coffers..

On a bike / cage... just make sure u don't ride 11km or more above limit... and if u ride fast just wait till u are in a group. they are everywhere....

around the mainland I was cruising at around 120kmh most of time... think I got lucky from the panniers on the bike... looks like am on tour which I was.

Reading by most peoples posts, they just keep pushing and pushing, then people are going to start running.

I've never been fined on the motorbike. I've only been pulled over once, but on a big bike it would be so easy to get away. Heck even on my 250, I know so many damn walkways they'd never be able to find me. Still, I don't think I'll try it.

I'm just annoyed, cause (not the fault of the police) the crimes where there are actually victims, ie. robberies, burglaries, assault but mostly vehicular theft are dealt with in my opinion extremely softly. Also, what I see as partly the fault of police is their resource distribution. Try getting a $20,000 car stolen, and if you've got no contacts on the force, then you could only dream of it being investigated. I'm speaking from experience here. I lost $20,000 at the worst possible time in my life, only for the cops to not give a damn.

For some reason business burglaries seem to take priority over residential burglary. Figure that one out. Residential burglary is a way bigger hit to someones life. Hell, even car theft can be a huge hit, as it was in my case.

I'm personally of the belief that speed limits should be personalised based on the riders / drivers skill level.

Do you imagine for instance that Rossi or Schumacher riding / driving around town / on the motorways have the same skills as say, your aunt Vera? No? Then why should they be made to do the same speed?

I think that if we were to use a graduated system, whereby you took various tests to show that you could safely operate your vehicle at speeds above and beyond the rest of the population then you should be allowed to.

    Basic Stage = Speed limit
    Stage 2 = Speed limit + 10kph
    Stage 3 = Speed limit + 20kph
    Stage 4 = Speed limit + 30kph

    Something like that.

Not a bad idea. Just a few holes.

The thing is the limit should be at the top of what is safe to do on the stretches of road that you are on. And currently the limit does not reflect that at all in most situations.

Secondly, the speed limits seem to be designed with the lowest common denominator in mind, ie. granny in her nissan sunny, the 20 tonne big rig etc. Now its all well and good to say that these should stay below the current speed limits, but I just feel stupid riding alongside a massive truck on the motorway, knowing full well that I could be going much faster and a lot safer than that truck currently is. The speed limits are a system designed by boring lifeless politicians in times when cars were shite and generally unsafe in so many ways compared to todays vehicles.

Society has wrapped itself in cotton wool in some respects, while leaving its arse hanging out the back so real crims can give it a right good rogering. I don't know if everyone's going to fully understand what I meant by that. But hey, I'm going to say it anyway.

See now I agree that the speed limits on most roads are far too low for people like us that can do higher speeds safely.

But I don't agree that the blanket speed limit should be raised.

It's my experience in NZ that the majority of drivers just can't drive. Consider how many posts there are on here on a weekly basis stating that so and so was driving while putting on makeup / having a ciggie / eating something / palming one off...

Now would you want these people going any faster? I'd rather have some dick in a cage travelling 50kph than that same dick doing 80kph... that's a whole lot more splat.

One blanket speed limit for all is an unreasonable system, trying to take 4million people and pretend they can all drive to the same limits is nuts.

I'd like a gold pass please, unlimited speed limits would be great.
