What happens if a robber does come in and trys to nut you wit a baseball bat. If you had your helmet on you would be ok, but if laws tell you to take it off, could you sue the petrol station for putting you in a dangerous situation?

Why didn't you politely tell Mr Nosy Plod to mind his own business?
BTW Flip fronts mean never having to take your lid off. (Not even for sex)

I always take my helmet off. Not doing so is just rude. Just like leaving your sunglasses on while talking to someone (mates excluded). People on TV in an interview or whatever leaving them on, its just rude. Didn't your mothers teach you anything?

Its like wearing a hat/cap inside.

My mother told me never to play with my helmet.
Remember to never split an infinitive. The passive voice should never be used. Do not put statements in the negative form. Proofread carefully to see if you words out. And don't start a sentence with a conjugation. (William Safire)

What's rude about wearing a hat on inside? I never really understood this convention.

I always take it off (having the quick release clasp on the strap helps) but for me it's a combo of do undo others (coz I'd like them to take it off for me...) and the whole "take your hat off while you're inside" gleefully beaten into me.

    aaa the old ways...

    Anyhoo. there's my 5c
$2,000 cash if you find a buyer for my house, kumeuhouseforsale@straightshooters.co.nz for details

I spose one way to beat this is to have cash on you and then if they bitch you just slap your 20 down on the counter and walk out. maybe I dont want my face recorded for demographic statistical purposes (Im sure BP has a record of your face attached to your AA card or something)
I only posted this because of the global economic crisis

I'd normally ignore this thread, since it's at least the fourth iteration of this topic. However (BUT!) things have changed since the last few times this has gone to air.
I now make a point of NOT taking my helmet off, even if the servo has one of them helmet stickers on the door. But I will take it off if asked (haven't been yet).
Most times I fill up during daylight hours, and it's rather obvious that I'm about to pay, not rob the place. So it's rude to the assistants if I don't? Tough. They're there to provide a service to me, not the other way around, and it's a disservice having to take off gloves and helmet and put them back on again. As it is, I usually manage to drop summat - dropped my keys twice last time - and have to carry my helmet and gloves would make it worse. I'd be REALLY pissed off if I dropped my helmet because someone insisted I remove it.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

    Never been asked.
If the eventuality arises, it would depend on the situation, my mood and the courtesy or otherwise of the asker.

I'll usually take the lid off.

Only takes a couple of seconds to take if off... and it's a lot easier filling up / paying / having a ciggie without the lid on.

If you did get problems you could always have your lighter handy and blow the garage up on the way out, a la Arnold Schwearzeniaaegggerss
