LOL... you just want to see my dorsel fin (or is that a flipper... I dunno anymore)

    2 things.

The try a snorkle thingy is actually a try a scuba thingy (apparently there's a big diff)

I have a call in to the guy at Dive HQ to confirm if another 2 pple is ok...

Yeah best place nearby is at Goat Island. Used to do a lot of snorkelling there when we were at the University lab on field trips.

Actually, being at SSI Dive Controller level, I am qualified to teach snorkelling if you need some "extra" assistance.

But, then again, I am more likely to give you wrong advice just so I can take a photo of your face and post it here on KB
It's been a rough day. I got up this morning, put on a shirt and a button fell off.
As I ran out the door, I picked up my briefcase, and the handle came off.
Now I'm afraid to go to the bathroom.

I'll keep that in mind if/when formal training is needed. At the mo it's snorkelling all the way with a "give it a go" on scuba...

I'll look forward to seeing you guys on coast watch soon. I'd suggest you try a sling instead of a spear gun, much easier and more efficient. It's just a spear with an elastic band attached to the end that you stretch out down the spear and hold until you wanna spear something. Much much easier to use when you're snokeling.
I've been away but I'm coming back.

Cheers for that... as mentioned - I'll learn how to survive before I learn how to kill things... but I'm a hunt kill cook kinda guy so the sling will come in handy.

How much do I expect to pay for one? Would I look for "sling" on trademe - or something else?

    Best place to get one?

Enjoy the snorkelling (and the scuba lesson).. Goat Isl is a great place if you don't want to kill anything - heaps of fishes, rays, etcetc.

Personally, I've watched too many movies (Jaws1-3, Open Water) to be hanging around in the water with a bleeding fish attached to me......

    But you'll be fine

A shark would get nowhere near me in the water... all the brown stuff would hide my trail while I ran across the surface of the water to solid ground

Swim wherever, I'll make my own sewerage outfall if anything with big teeth and an attitude approaches!

Waits for response from various KB members...

Don't think you need to be too concerned about sharks guys, be more concerned about the local iwi claiming your catch in some places.
I've been away but I'm coming back.
