    NW Motorway - Auckland

Be careful on the North Western! There seems to be a good deal of about. Saw a biker following a bus in the bus lane who then went past a marked ute... (obvious outcome...) THEN a plainclothes commode comes racing up and so we have 2 cops + 2 cop cars for 1 biker...
There obviously isn't much crime about these days to keep them busy...

The marked utes on the motorway are driven by non sworn members of the police.

My understanding is that in the marked utes for "motorway support" are unsworn officers and are unable to issue tickets. Meaning that they need to wait for a sworn officer to come along and book you.

    Is this correct?

Bloody hell, why don't they go and solve some of those unassigned crimes for once, combining the traffic officers and polce back in the late 80's has not worked in my opinion.

They are warranted enforment officers that give them the power to stop you and request deatils, the same power as a cop. They can issue stationary offence notices, Parking, tyres condition, etc. Offen a sworn member will back them up and issue a Offence notice.

    enforcement officer means—
    (a) a sworn member of the police:
    (b) a non-sworn member of the police who is authorised for
the purpose by the Commissioner of Police:
    (c) a person who is appointed to that office by warrant
under section 208 of the Act or who holds that office by
    virtue of the Act

Sounds right. I had to give assistance to one wrestling with a 1M (mental) late one night on the side of the motorway and he couldn't cuff him 'cause he wasnt sworn... I was getting to the stage of "give me the fu**ing cuffs and I'll do it when 2 units showed up (then proceeded to stand around doing fuck all while this nutter was fighting to get away... ).
I recon I have a credit owing that was not utilised on the last speeding fine!!!
In future I might consider having to leave them to it...

what is the opinion of the officers on here, re: civilian help when they are fighting a scumbag and getting a hiding?.. would we be able to assist or would we be booked for assault afterwards?

i jumped in one night to help an American cop outside a bar i worked in.. he had pepper sprayed this douchebag and they guy kept fighting..he was obviously outmatched. i jumped in and helped subdue this guy and got cuffed for " interfearing with an officer.. blah blah.."

    "you want help?"

    "was that a yes?"

    "are you sure?"

    "... hang on - I'll find someone..."

I think there'd be a difference between jumping in the middle to have a punch up, or standing in defence of another... surely... but where does that line lie?

Anyhoo - yes there is a revenue colection focus on the NW and SH16 at the mo. unmarked cars, more bikes, cameras out and about. No biggie - just another example of "riding to the conditions". They teach that in the road code although I don't think ticket avoidance is what they had in mind.

Well, the cops tell us not to fight back, give them whatever they want, lie back and think of England, and let the professionals sort it out. So, following their advice, stand back, open the popcorn, and let them deal with it. There have been to many cases where dealing with the scumbags is a ticket to legal trouble. Even if you walk, I for one can't afford $50,000 in legal fees.

If they wonder why people won't help, the top brass need look up the bit about "sowing and reaping".

yup - definately. take the 2000-odd traffic cops back out of the frontline policing. give them dedicated traffic jobs. don't tie them up with time wasting jobs like shoplifters, burglary cordons, domestics etc. would give them heaps more time to be out on the road pinging us. and who's going to replace the 2000 cops taken for DEDICATED traffic duties? Aaron and Winja?

be careful what you wish for. obviously you were never dealt with by the black and white minstrels....

Hahahaha!! That's funny Marty. You expect motorcyclists to put 2 + 2 together? Hahahahahaa

"I can say what I like and no one can touch me. Yea, fuck the man"

    Hahahahahaaa.

I am so going to piss myself laughing when they drop the speed limit of the road between Martinborough and Gladstone to 80km/hr, and the East-West access road to 90km/hr and all the KBers who went , "blah blah blah Motorcycles have a much broader performance envelope and can perform moves that make car drivers think we're dangerous, they have no idea", start wondering why that happened.

Post on a public forum today, increased Police activity tomorrow. Conspiracy or Affirmative Action Policing?
If a man is alone in the woods and there isn't a woke Hollywood around to call him racist, is he still white?

Hey Divot, hope that arm gets better soon so you can get back on your bike. It caught me by surprise finding out about non-sworns at that exact moment... Passers by should be able to confidently stop and assist someone in blue needing help.

You know last year more pedrestians were killed on the motorway than people in/on motor vehicles.
