    tyre advice please

The old tyre is a metzler z4 no longer in production. All I really want is something that goes round and grips well in the wet. The current tyre is well and truely squared off so I am obviously not in the market for a grippy race tyre. GSX1100g helltorquey shafty tourer
I can get the local bike shop to order in a tyre but I suspect they are gouging bastards so I'd like to get a quote elseware.
so:What tyre , where to get it from? What do you guys pay for fitting?
    Insert witticism.

What he said, but put a Z6 on the front too. Especially with a heavier touring bike.

Pirelli diablo strada are pretty good too. Good grip and good wear.

About the same price. There's a lot of choice out there!

Avon Azaro AV49-SP front and AV46-ST rear, or an AV45-ST on the front if you want a more rounded tyre.
    $475 fitted from Motohaus.
Comes with a 1000km satisfaction guarantee - if you don't like them, Kerry will replace them with whatever you want (but I guarantee you will like them!) and with a lifetime free puncture repair.

I've had these on two bikes now - VTR1000 and recently on the VFR800 to replace a set of Bridgestone BT020s. These tyres are HEAPS better than the Bridgestones - softer ride, better grip, more confidence-inspiring.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

Just got Avons for the Busa yesterday. Still in the process of "scuffing" them, but they will get a good workout on the coromandel on Sunday. The cost was:

    Avon Viper 190/50-17 ($257.78) & 120/70-17 ($191.11) Excl.

Will let you know how they handle
It's been a rough day. I got up this morning, put on a shirt and a button fell off.
As I ran out the door, I picked up my briefcase, and the handle came off.
Now I'm afraid to go to the bathroom.

Thanks guys, hopefully some consensus will emerge. I should have added, I live in Queenstown and wof expired so Alex is about as far as I want to venture to get the tyre sorted. No bike shop in Qtn. The prices are very useful as a guide. WMCC gave me a price of 285 for a bridgestone ex stock plus freight seems a bit steep.
    Insert witticism.

    That's a good deal.
