KX250 Question - What year is this bike & maintenance

    Hi everyone.

I've recently decided to get into some casual mx. I used to ride a bit as a teenager, never raced but rode for several years.

I have purchased a KX250, I used to own a 86, and I have purchased what I belive to be a 96. Can you tell me how to confirm the details of my bike for the number stamped into the chassis? KX250k-009035. What other information does this tell me about the bike?

Maintenance? I can do simple tasks like oil changes etc, no problem. Is there anyone/anywhere I can download service manuals for my KX? Or any usefull links etc.

Last one. Wellington. I live hear and I think I can find some places to go (looking foward to Red Rocks!). Anyone reccoment a mechenic/shop to do maintenance on my bike? I think I need fork seals. Also looking for a source of good value parts, as I chew through tires, sprockes, leavers etc!

    Thanks heaps in advance.

PS: Any learner Wellington riders wanting to hook up for a ride, PM me, I am in Churton Park.

Ok, have a look at your rims and there is a date stamp in there. if it says 97 , its a 96.

As for a manual, just go buy one, they are surprisingly cheap.

Thanks for that. It has mis-matching rims though, 1 says 94 (just 94 not 1994) the other says 96 (not 1996).

I'd just like to confirm the age of the bike if possible, I thought I could do that from the VIN/CIN or whatever its called but kawasaki.com only does USA and I can't find info anywhere else.

    Thanks

Ring up your local Kawasaki agent........ sounds like it's a 95 though.

First thing I'd do is change the piston. and check the cylinder. look for scores. then just go through and change all your bikes fluids.

Thats for that. Rung Boyle Kawasaki and they confirmed it was a 1995, sold as 1996 in NZ. So thats all good as far as I am concerned.

I will keep a look out for that book.

I've given the bike a good cleanup, and am going to take it into Boyle for Shock seals and wipers and new fluid. I've done an oil change, lube, replaced the spark plug etc. Need to re-pack the exaust and replace some rivits to remove a rattle. Otherwise I think its good to go.

I've brought some safty gear including boots, so all I need now is time to go for a ride! Whoohooo!

Ahh you are going through all I've just done. Except I found out my bike was a 96 not a 98.....

And my wife just found out I spent 1400 on fixing it up.....

    Doh.... in trouble now.
