Thread: How far will your bike go on a tank?

  1. #16
My XT used to get 220km with the standard tank, with the Acerbis I've gone 360km without going to reserve, kinda scary pushing it to reserve if stations aren't around.Today was only the 2nd time I've gone to reserve on the DT230,looks like it's 165km,with 2 litres in reserve,I hope. But that's mostly on gravel, maybe 180km cruising on seal?

Very few can do more than 300km before reserve. Which is actually WORSE than the 200 - 250 miles on Briddish iron donkey's years ago.

Despite the fact that with modern design and some sensible restyling the designers could easily give us 10 gallon tanks. And all the advances in engine design , we still don't see more than 40 or 50 mpg from big bikes. Should be 100 mpg at least. Then we'd have a usefully decent fuel range. 'Tis a pain constantly having to stop for fuel just as one is getting into the swing of things.
get a scooter and turn the under seat storage into a reserve fuel tank, then you'll get around 70km for every $5 spent, should be able to fit about 15l of fuel in a tank in there, so then you should be able to get about 420km to a "tank" and then if you put yet another 10L tank on the gap between your legs you'll be able to add roughly 230km to your 420, to get 650km off your three tank scooter, of course the bloody thing probably won't go over 40 up hills cause it's carrying so much weight in petrol, and you'll look like a dick filling up your three petrol tanks, and you'll lose that underseat space where you used to put you're lunch, but at least you'll get 650km from a tank

My XT with the tour tank and the std will now do 350 before reserve. Much better. Can get to work and back 3 days on that.

My XT600E would only do 200 before reserve.
It depends on the tank. A challenger II will get you at least 500miles

Between 425 and 450km to "reserve" and then another 75km until empty.

Still no takers for a one-fuel-stop "race" from Wellington to Auckland?

Best I got was 150kms including reserve on my fzr.
That thing had worse economy than my car, and the engine was 6.4 x smaller than that of my car.

I've had anything from 160-220k's to reserve depending on riding. That's 15 litres down, 3 to go.

Oh, and using 96 or 98, wouldn't touch that 91 crap.

Not quite sure as I just got the bike.
Let me tell you though...yesterday it was about 5km's not far enough!

*blushing* when I picked up the bike on Thursday afternoon Mike said "I've put a full tank of gas in for you girl* yay! I thought to myself, I took a long ride Thursday night and went to Warkworth yesterday. I had just finished impressing hubby with my cornering when putt, putt, putt, slowing down...
I lent down to switch to reserve...uh oh...it was already on reserve! Boys at bike shop must have played a trick :-( I never thought to check it was not on reserve as I thought the bike shop would have done that!

Lesson learnt! I will never make this assumption ever again.

Hubby was not impressed and had to ride into Warkworth to get me some gas. Lovely hubby!

So it seems it only went 200kms on the tank, however...I'm not how full a full tank of gas meant, so I will wait until I have completed another tank before I can be certain. (I certainly hope its more than 200 km's...it looks about to be a 13-15 litre tank).

On my Speed Four I get about 230km before the reserve light comes on and then about 65ks before dry........but that may be because I ride like a girl's blouse........

The Goose hits reserve at 269 but I expect that to get a bit better now it's run in properly. The Beemer doesn't have a reserve, but the fuel light comes on at about 350 from memory.

The RG150 I had used to do 225 to start with, but once I started ringing its neck, it only did about 165!

i reckon the busa would get 350 out of a tank - it does 260 easy with a fair bit of fanging.
