Rural road limit to be lowered...

Found this article in a local rag... I know, you shouldn't believe everyfink you read, but...

"The 100kph speed limit on some rural roads will be lowered to 90kph in an effort to reduce NZ's road toll."
"The new approach to speed is expected to begin in Wellington by the end of this year and if successful will spread to 40 other danger spots throughout the country."
"Plans to increase the speed limit to 110kph on wider longer roads were shelved when Transit engineers found none of NZ's roads were suitable."

    Yeah, right.

(hope i posted this in the right place!)

    yeah right place..

ain't gonna do jack tho, there's no real issue with people speeding around (even tho it's bad and against the law), it's the people speeding and following too close to the vehicle in front, or not reading the road, or not even watching the road that cause the accidents, not the speed.. reduce a silly round sign by 10 numbers ain't gonna do shit.

Please tell me this is a bait and that I fell hook line and sinker...... The retards just don't get it. BUILD BETTER FRICKIN ROADS is one option. But then again, we are happy to slide into a 3rd world nation who spends nothing on infrastructure, and governed by a socialist dictator (??? huh). And the infrastructure work that does happen to get a) funding and b) past the resource mismanagement act, takes 2+ years to complete! ie. is the roadworks on SH1 Ham-Akl ever going to get finished? How about some power with that blackout sir? Hey, that Auckland drinking water is whey cool.

[swallows little pill, feels much better now thank you]

You must have 'man eyes' - that's the kind of look my husband has too! I knew I had posted in a thread about it so I just searched under 'rural' and 'speed' I think and found it pretty damn smart - but then, I am a woman!

I was just going to say that - most public really ignore those shitty 'temporary' signs that become permanent. They infuriate me no end. I see people stick at 110 through the whole way, I don't mind slowing for proper roadworks but a cone that has been in the same place for 3 months and nothing is happening does not warrant a speed drop.
I think the same thing will happen out in the country.

for a good laugh at 'temporary road signs', come off at Esmond road. They expect you to reduce your speed from 100kph on the motorway, to 30kph for the roadworks!! must try that one day..

as said before so many crashes could be prevented if the surface was at least simi smooth and not full of potholes!! the government needs to stop spending money on arguments about gay people (i have nothing against them) and start spending money on things that actuially save people .

    like roads

the road surface should always be up to a standard that a bike can ride without thinking 'fuck this is really hard to ride'

ARGH!!! i frecken hate this it makes me so annoyed

sorry to bore you with this rant but hey

    30kph

Ever been through some of these 30kph "roadworks" on the open road (you know, the ones with some road cones and a perfectly normal road surface, and no sign of guys leaning on shovels), with a copper behind you? It's happened to me twice, and no chance am I going to get pinged for doing 50+ (ie 80kph), so I've slowed down to 30 on the dot. Man, both times they were not happy. Tailgating, extreme looks of agitation etc.

Hopefully they find some one from transit and give them the old

I am led to believe that the temporary speed restrictions around roadworks are there for the safety of those people actually working on the roads. The transport act states that these temporary signs have to be taken down when no work is being done (EXAMPLE: harbour bridge re surfacing gets done at night so restrictions apply then...). The signs are not being removed when work stops for the night on major roadworks and so is therefore illegal in itself!!!
Just what I have been told! (goes away to get out flack vest and tin hat...)
