ApplicatioNZ introduces himself properly

Hi all,

I have been lurking and piping up occasionally for the last few weeks so time to introduce myself.

I rode a copy of a 150 Vespa for about a year or more when I first came to Auckland (about the mid ’80s) and stopped riding it as soon as I got a car. Then about 20 years later, a funny thing happened…

A couple of months ago I was thinking about the fuel consumption of the stock AU 4 litre Fairmont when sitting stationary at traffic lights and in motorway cues and I suddenly thought about getting back on a bike. Within less than a week I HAD TO HAVE a bike. (If this is a mid-life crisis, its going pretty well so far).

Anyway, initially I thought about one of the new super-scooters (Suzuki AN250 or something) but my preteen/teen kids said they would disown me completely - so I went the cruiser way. The Honda Magna 250 is a great introduction – I am doing a few minor things done to it to get it up to scratch but overall it’s a good solid bike.

After I get my full licence (which I wish I had sat back in the 80’s), I am thinking about one of the 800cc Suzuki cruisers to start with (I like the look of the one Mrs Hitcher rides for example). I might have to sell the old Fairmont to get something like that – if I do that, you know I am committed to the cause!

I work in IT (data analysis and database integration). Other interests include 3D Graphics and tattoos (although Mrs ApplicatioNZ is not a fan of those so I will have to wait for her to expire before I make a booking for a full body suit).

You will no-doubt read some more newbie-like questions from me in the near future and I’ll pop up and put in a 2 cents worth here and there.

It would be indeed a rare thing to find an IT KBer actually WORKING. Mostly, they spend their time reading and posting on KB! (Occasional timeouts to devise new and ingenious LARTs, starfish for the use of)

when you get your full, play around on a whole heap of cruisers taking them out for an hour or so each.

You'll see a big difference. Some people have commented to me they didn't like the new 'zuki cruisers but they did like the old ones... so be sure to test ride.

Hello and welcome, hope you enjoy a little bit of madness!
Best advice when choosing a bike is to ride as many as you can get your hands on, for at least 30-45 mins and be sure to try some winding stuff.
