Scumdog - hope you made it home from the winchester rally before the rain hit.
Anyways, the adventures of MsM and myself:
State highway 8 from SH1 up to Alexandra on friday night has no cops and the slowest traffic is two weirdos two up on a red DL650 *cough* traveling at 135 km/h trying to keep up with the pace of traffic. Many cars and bikes passing roar along the road.
The roads are evenly sealed with no tarsnakes and few bumps, potholes or ridges to disrupt riding. Lots of tight twists, nice straights too. If you ever get a chance to go up there past 5 pm take it.
Between alex and queenstown are plenty of cafes. Makes a nice 'yuppie tour' to try and stop at them all, and the alcohol-making whatzits too.
Fergsburgers - good bikerfriendly place in Queenstown. Awesome food, quick, and they don't mind if leather clad bikers wander in.
And, while we were doing the silly tourist stuff in arrowtown a whole heap of sports bikes arrived around my bike. This wasn't planned. I'd parked in the middle of a rally, so you can imagine my surprise when we finished lunch and mags and lounging around in the shade to find all these awesome sprotsbikes going as fast as possible up the road.
Then the rally organisers got a bit grumpy because I hadn't signed up! Woulda thought they'd have noticed my bike when they all arrived.
These riders were really pushing their machines to the limit, even if it was just coming around the corner. Yes, some of them had peddles for extra omf at high speed.
