I believe most people are swayed by fashion to a degree, even if they won't admit it. If you are put in a position to upgrade or replace *new* gears it is hard to purposely find anything that isn't 'fashionable' in the eyes of the motorcycling world.
Fashion is an interesting subject that often grips the buyer with a sense of conformity to what is popular in the biking scene. Some who do not conform can end up purposely buying old second hand gears & bikes so they can quench the thought that any motivation they have to buy these things is to gain approval of other people.
As for me, sometimes I recognise that I am being influenced by fashion and go with the flow, other times I choose to be conservative and couldn't give a hoot what anyone else thinks.
I would like a new R6 though...and yes, it's very fashionable isn't it!
To me 'fashion' tends to mean something that is in a fleeting span of popularity
I don't wear 'fashionable' clothing etc.
What I DO wear is my choice that is not influenced by media, advertising or what popular celebrities are wearing etc.

When riding I'm more into comfort and safety. Fortunately for me, the gear looks OK and the skidlid looks awesome with the graphics on it. Ive never been one for being fashionable and its more thanks to the better half that I looks half decient at times. I allways had older bikes until reciently and to be honest, used to ride with a swanny, jeans, MX gloves, lid and gumboots. Clearly I was not concirned with what others thought. However after a nasty bin thanks to a cager, I wear the protection.Originally Posted by Zed

Well the coppers just ain't very fashonable these days are they. Not like when the YMCA track came out... and all the Coppers, Red Indians, Phone Repair Men and Homosexuals were all sexy and hip.Originally Posted by scumdog

Yep. There's a huge difference between style and fashion.Originally Posted by Duc-Gurl

Like Motu, I remember when what was in the shops was what you got. Most of the time I wear what I can get or afford. When I can, I buy what I personally like the look of, uninfluenced by what the media reckons is "fashionable".
I'm sure I look dreadfully bohemian in my Dri-rider jacket and pants - basic black with just the red labels on the arms.
Clothing: as Henry Ford said - "Any color (sic) you like, as long as it's black." Durable, easy and comfortable are my main concerns, though.
