Mounting a radar detector (work safe)

Hey, any of you lads got a CBR1000rr with a radar mount? I've got a V1 and just purchased a HARD system from Radar Direct. Top bloke. He also sold me a mount and said I could get my money back or swap it if it didn't fit which is doesn't.

Any ideas? Cheers

Contact Pixie for a custom mount. The fancy damper makes the RR's a little trickey.

Vtwinraver got a nice set up and I don't think there is any problem adapting it to V1. The only probem would be rear detection, which you wouldn't have either if you mount the detector somewhere in front of your body as most people would.

I actually really want to mount my detector somewhere on my helmet (preferably on the side) or on my shoulder. I wouldn't need to worry about taking it on or off (it would go anywhere I go).
The problem is mounting. i'm not made of titanium.

I've had no problem with rear radar detection, even with the aluminised thermal liner in my jacket.

I don't have problem either. But I think the correct description is "it is much less than the optimal detection",

The 1000 has the same front side fairings as the 600 i think.....so check out my mounting position. Works well, and detects as good as it did on the stem mount.

Bit of velco holds it in place, and i have wired power and earphone plugs to the mounting point - the detector is on the left of the bike so that the earphone and power plugs are on the inside.

Just so I understand correctly... the detector works just as well when it has a solid object (fearing) right in front of it??? That seems amazing.

Won't detect laser though (for what that's worth)

Radar will pass thru your body, wood, some metal, plastic, trees etc like a prune thru grandma.....to the radar beam, the few mm of plastic fairing is just not even there!

Correct.....I sacrificed this ability for the much improved mounting position. It's an individual call, but i weighed up the options, and considering the second or so of warning you get for laser and the fact that radar is so much more common i made my choice. Note i still have laser detection to the rear....

I didn't know that about radar. Yes, the 1000 has a similar set to the 600 so I'll give that a go. You're right, I don't see laser as a threat on the back country roads.

Hey, good to hear something from so many years ago!
I often quote that and recall it as " whatta is isa behinda me, is notta in frontta me"! - I use it to put old baggage behind me - thanks for the memory!

Thanks for the feedback guys. I ended up getting a mount from Radardirect which I attached to the clutch clamp. Kiwi from Desmodronics kindly helped me (actually did all the work) wire it up.

So now I'm in action I must say the HARD system works really well although you have to remember to turn it off otherwise the batteries will drain.

So I went out looking for cops over the weekend and found one near Kumeu. It went off when I was about 15k's over the limit so I adjusted my speed accordingly. Sorry buddy
